Dell has been having shortages with rgb led in Europe for sometime now. People with m6500's had to wait more than a month to receive their orders.

Yep, the UK site is a shambles. Most of the time half the options aren't actually there and when they finally do pop up its only for a day or so. As Joker said, this is probably due to low stock but even so...

Haven't these guys ever heard of "supply and demand"?

900p is Dell terms is beyond somehow (I guess 720p is the standard).

If they go by that then they should know there's no such thing as 900p as an HD standard.

The fact that we have such a selective 'standard' to begin with, is a bigger marketting butchery. It does go beyond 720p in every way, and does do 1440x900 pixels, regardless of what a so-called 'body' is willing to recognise. Certainly beats other shoddy brands using 1024x768 and passing that off as '720p'. It's just splitting hair over semantic non-sense.

As for the UK Dell website and its usual list of issues. I have to ask, what's the 'news' factor here, because it's like a dejavu from 2008. (Save for the fact that we have newer computers with botched-up options.)

LOL, UK has it bad, but Australia trumps it all.. worst prices and nothing to choose from.. the AU alienware is the biggest joke under the sun, I'm just lucky I can get all my systems from the US. Otherwise I'd be rooted.

No I7 or I5 chips to choose from, massivly overpriced SSD's & RAM, no ATi cards, albeit I dont mind nvidia... at least we get bluray... http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellst...=dhs&cs=audhs1&kc=&oc=S510606AU&~lt=alienware

Pretty much double the price of a US system to get its value in Aus =/

I really think it is the supply issue even though reps tell me it is discontinued. It doesn't make any sense as the rest of the globe except Europe has it. I reached this conclusion after speaking to atleast 6 reps.

Reps. don't always speak the truth. Until the majority of people start acknowledging this fact, confusion and chaos will govern the dynamic between customers and Dell's 'aftercare' service.

Exactly. They have no idea what they are talking about. One lady is referring to RGB Screen as "Card" this is what she said " sorry sir, we don't sell the RGB card in UK any more". TBH this is a usual thing in Dell UK website. Initially dual gfx wasn't available but one day it came up on the site and in a week or two vanished again but they have it thru calling in.
I am fedup typing in iPhone.

How did you manage to get RGB then seeing as you're in the UK?

I want to place an order via Alienware support sometime in the next few weeks because they said they have access to all options that arent shown on the website. i'm hoping RGB LED Is one of them otherwise I dont think I'll be buying the R2 in the UK. Imagine losing a customer because of a screen option for +150£?

Well I been waiting for my refund for 3 weeks now. And meanwhile I called my rep for an M17x quote last month on 21st ( system in my sig). They had the rgb option then. But now they don't. I was planning to order it as soon as I got my money but now I guess I need to wait a while longer. And no, you can't get it even on phone in UK.

Why don't those of you in the UK did what javilionaire did and use hidevolution.com to order it from the US? Should save you money and get what you need.

Its a last resort process, i'd rather go through Dell UK so that they're bound by rules and regulations of the UK..

Besides as an American I can arrange for the delivery to my sister's appartment in NYC. I hesitate paying a premium for something I can do myself.

No it did not save me any money rather I would be paying more. The quote from hidevolution was $4618.12+ 261.31 shipping + 200 bd rom. That is $5079.43 for the same system in my sig plus 3 years cover. Here in UK I was able to get the same for ~$4748(£2947 with bd rom) that too with accidental cover but for 2 years(that's all I need but I am forced to take 3yrs from us else no international warranty).

You could always get someone in the US to order it. I could probably get your config for about $3630 with 3 yrs warranty + complete care. Using the $100 coupon available today it would actually be $3530.

The plan might be to pick up an Alienware M11x for the interem (i've got a few hundred pounds in Dell credit lying around), then order an M17x R2 a month before i go back to the states in May to visit, at USA Prices. The fact we have to pay ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS more and DONT HAVE RGB LED is simply pathetic.

I will hold off until RGB pops up again. Or even if doesn't any time soon then atleast the 5870's will come out. Which ever is first. But till then I have no laptop.

It's gone from the Dutch site aswel?!? I dunno what the problem is, but it will certainly re-appear. We can get all the U.S. options. I guess we'll just have to wait... :(

Those of you in Europe really should just wait instead of accepting CCFL. Dell has been having RGB LED shortages in Europe for sometime now. They will likely sort it out and then you'll hate yourselves for not waiting. Plus the 5870s might be released by then as well.

That's strange I called over 6+ reps. And none of them even had a clue why it's not available leave alone next availability time. They just don't have any info really. Your rep was just doing his guess work. I am sure he too has no clue. Could be a short wait or a long one no one knows for sure.

The cost is £2118.18, After getting a 10% student discount. Comparing to the US site its still go head to head with their prices after dropping the student discount, adding the US tax and applying shipping costs besides nobody knows if you will be charged the VAT again here in the UK.

I guess its just too risky to to order from the US and thats just me ofcourse
