I just received my Alienware replacement M17x-R2 for my M17x-R1 [Specs Below] at no cost to me! I have read many posts of people asking the difference between the regular LCD and the RGB LED... I decided to post pictures...

Also, the fail trackpad that had extreme lag on the R1 was fixed on the new one as well =D

That's a pretty noticeable difference, the colors are definitely more rich on the R2

That's quite amazing but it seems too good to be true.

So did you take this picture before sending back the original one, and the reason why you have two? Why did they send you a new one? What was wrong with your first M17x?

Yeah I still have the old one...I was getting Electrical shocks from the left side of my computer into my forearm...Very painful btw. and I requested a new one...This new one is #4 I have gone through 3 R1's...Also, The processor on the R1 in the picture was crapping out using nearly 98% of the cores all the time. even Idle. I am going to call dell right now to upgrade the new one with another 4870 so i can Xfire =D

LOL, I was just about to do the same exact thing today.. There is a noticable difference between the two screens with the RGB displaying much more vibrant colors. The pics do NOT do it justice.. The only thing I don't like about the RGB is.. It doesn't stay consistent when lowering the brightness. It's an amazing screen at the highest level of brightness, but the whites get a creamy color as you lower the brightness. I expect a dimmer white, not a yellower one.

Hey, sorry if this is a stupid question but it didn't say in your specs so I thought I'd ask: the R1 screen, thats the old 1920x1200 dual bulb screen or the 1440x900 screen?

I ask because I am in the market for an M17x (have been for a while) and perfer the resolution of 1440x900 but I'm really concerned about the color reproduction. My current lappy, an old Toshiba A200 has horrible color next to my Samsung 19" 1440x900 desktop flatscreen and even my wife's Acer 5738G (which really surprised me with its great color for the price).

I notice a significant difference from my old R1's display to my new R2's RGB LED display and there is no comparison, I can never go back to CCFL after owning this RGB LED.

Yeah, I went through the same process and had both R1 and R2 before my eyes for comparison. I noticed that the RGB LED is brighter (at 20%) than the CCFL at max, lol.
