the only HDD option i got was 1 TB raid 0 (2x 500 GB); the others were SSDs. i don't like the idea of losing all my data if any one of the two drives fails.

really high up on my to-do list when i get the M17x and before i do anything useful, is to unraid the two drives. any suggestions on the best way to go about it? i'll be manually backing up my important data to the 2nd drive or an external periodically so i've got no use for raid 1 just now.

ironic that i found a RAID 1 to RAID 0 in the Sager/Clevo forum. suggestion there was:
    do the same for this?

Yup, that's the best way to make the switch so you have everything as it currently is.

The other option is to just back up what you feel is important and do a clean install on a single drive.

Don't forget to disable Raid in your bios prior to doing the new installation.

You should have just got 2x 500GB drives in RAID 1, its 50 bucks cheaper than x 500GB drives in RAID 0, and you can just unRAID when you get em.

Edit: oops It's only 50 bucks cheaper on the Dell Canada site, both options are the same price at Dell.com so never mind lol.

thanks Rob41 and Mr.Moo. i'll eventually end up re-installing anyway but i want to see how they're stock system runs with some OC before i muck things up :p

i would've if i could. would also make unraid-ing easier. as i said, the only HDD option was 1 TB raid 0. the dell singapore doesn't list any other HDD options, raid or otherwise. i'd even called to ask if they could give me raid none/raid 1 and they said they couldn't.
