I am going to get a M15x and I wanted to know what the significant difference is between the 1066 ram and the 1333 ram. Also, I was thinking about getting 6 GB of ram and I wanted to know if the 4GB 1333 would be faster than the 6 GB of 1066. Im not sure how exactly it would break down but I really would like to know.

On another note what does the impact of the 820 i7 have over the 720? I will be gaming and I want to know what the speeds are when both are compared.
If you have any other information that would be great.
    Thanks

Not sure if the 4GB 1333 would be faster than the 6GB 1066, my guess is it likely wont be, since 2GB of RAM will add much more power than the 4GB at 1333. Although, i've been told that the 1333 works faster with the i7, so I'm not too sure.

Naturally, the 820 is faster than the 720, but it probably wont make too much of a difference. The 720 has clock speeds i believe of 1.6 at 3 and 4 cores, 2.4GHz at 2 cores, and 2.8GHz at a single core.

The 820 has clock speeds of 1.73GHz at 3 and 4 cores, 2.8GHz at 2 cores, and 3.06GHz at a single core. I dont know if that helps, but this should give you an idea of how the processors compare.

Don't bother getting 6GB of RAM. For any gamer, 4GB is more than enough and will be for a while now. 6GB and 8GB of RAM is too expensive right now to justify the price.

You won't notice a massive speed increase, but 1333 RAM will provide a higher speed than 1066.

The 820 won't be much more powerful than the 720. If you're paying the extra, what is it $400 more? You might as well go all the way for the 920.

totally agree with evil.. there wont be much of a difference in the 1333 RAM and 1066... i would advise u to get 4GB with 1066 because its cheaper and dont mind upgrading for now.. it wont be worth the money.. u can upgrade other component than concertration on RAM

if you can afford the 820 then get the 720 and SSD. money better spent as its a noticeable difference.

that seems to be the experience of those with the M15 and benchmarks that have been posted: if money is not an issue a fully maxed M15 is the way to go, 920, 1333 and ssd but for most of us, its a trade-off between different components. Best bang for the buck is the 720, 4 gb of 1066 and the SSD.

so 4 gb of ram and 6 gb of ram do not make a difference with games at the moment?

Without the limitation of FSB, 1333 memory should be more efficiently used. I'm sure there are some test out there somewhere.

i know dell.ca has the deal where you get the 6GB 1066 RAM, and if you configure otherwise you can match that deal price but with only 4GB 1333 RAM.

So in this case I'm presuming that when both give you the same price, its better to go with the 6GB 1066 than the 4GB 1333?
