So i just set up my m15x with a fresh install of XP and all necessary drivers. The issue i am having is that sometimes i get these random disconnects from the internet. Sometimes it's just xfire. Sometimes it's xfire and trillian. Sometimes everything goes down.
has anyone had a problem like this and can anyone offer a solution or something to check.

Firewall? Have you any programs installed that can cause instability or dont work well together?
This is more a question for the Windows OS department of this forum! -
ya hes right..Kaspersky..oh god

I use Nod32, which is kaspersky but BETTER. I don't the problem is my hardware. But my dad doesn't lose connection and we are both on the same network. I didn't lose connection at all after i posted this, but the only thing i changed was my xfire skin (odd).
My ISP is RCN (they suck @$$). No login page, no info required to get to the net, it's broadband. Router is connected properly.
I did have to install network drivers from alienware before i could get online, which is kind of odd because XP should have those shouldn't it?
Seeing as all other hardware works fine and my compaq never had this problem, I am guessing it is the m15x. If it persists I'll call alienware but so far, it SEEMS to have stopped. -
I use Nod32 aswell. Try and disable the firewall and stop the continues scans it does in the background for all applications accessing the internet. You do it in the advanced setup tree > Web adress something and it should be in there somewhere, it is the 3-5 option from the top in the setup tree.
I had the same problem as you stated and that was up to conflicting IP addresses in the network, try and reinstalling/upgrading router firmware.
I always have to install network drivers after a clean XP installation if that is what you mean, on my old computer i even had to install USB drivers which was a pain!
To me it sounds like some software issue with different programs going down and sometimes everything goes down, as i said check router, try and disable router firewall aswell for ur specific computer and try and connect computer straight into the wall (not through router) if that is possible to remove any suspicion that ur router is the problem. -
and btw, are you on a wireless? if so try with connect directly to router through a cable aswell.

IF you are on wireless. Uninstall the drivers and reinstall the newer ones on the Intel website or in your HIVE.

No wireless, i'm directly connected. I'll check out the NOD fixes and disable windows firewall since NOD has its own. (can;t believe i forgot about that).
Once i find the power adapter to my switch i'll be able to test if it is the router or the machine.
