I wanted to start a thread for concentrated 'review-like' comments about the M17x, hoping that those who have one would rate their machine on a scale from 1 to 10 and following up their vote with an explanation as to why they are so satisfied/dissatisfied with the M17x.
I'll go first.
10/10
The graphics are phenominal. The utility buttons are easily used. The lighting system is better than I expected, and I'm having a ball with it. The noise while gaming is EXTREMELY quiet. I don't even notice it. The only part of the machine that gets warm is the two back corners, and for a high-powered machine, it stays extremely cool. The screen on mine is flawless and 'only' resembles a mirror when there is NOTHING on the screen. Otherwise, there's no reflection whatsoever. Gaming performance is top-notch. I haven't incurred a single bit of graphics lag on Crysis, Prototype, or UT3, all on high.
I'm 100% obsessed with this machine. It far and away exceeded my expectations, and I'm beyond satisfied with it.
And one more thing... if you have ANY friends, they will envy you till the day you die for having this thing. It's absolutely beautiful.

9/10. If this thing weighted 5lbs it would get a 10 from me.
-
If it weighted 10 lbs.... lol
-
What motherboard does this guy use? Can it accept higher than a 2.8 processor? Just curious how it has improved on teh XPS 1730.

Rated it a nine, disregarding my lighting problems. Weight literally pulls it down..HA..a pun..If it was a bit lighter and a bit cheaper. But I'm a dreamer. Great laptop altogether. No real complaints..replacement on the way.

There is no such thing as a light weight 17" "ultra-performance" gaming notebook.
-
That was the most powerful laptop at the time and weighed 8lbs... -
LED backlit LCD would have earned a 10/10. It's not exactly a new technology they failed to include here...

8 / 10
The annoying auto-dimming display gets a mark taken off, another half mark for the backlight bleed, and another half for the screwy (at least for me) Alienware command centre.
Kick-@ss laptop otherwise though. -
dissapointed in the screen, but otherwise ! 9/10
-
who gave it a 3.5 lol
-
I most likely will get M17x, but this thread is...
-
I rate mine a 9/10. Points off for slight lcd backlight bleed. Points off for extreme weight while on my lap.
Overall this laptop is amazing and is the best piece of machinery on the market today. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. -
since mine is broken from the factory my rating isn't high. Hopefully it gets fixed tomorrow when the tech comes and replaces my video cards.

My perfect laptop would've been a 15.4" or 17" MBP with a single GTX 280M in it, ExpressCard /54, eSATA, and HDMI instead of display port. The M17x goes to the extreme, weighing something like twice as much and having probably more than twice the volume, and getting an inferior LCD, far superior graphics, a second HD bay, and a 11ty million ports.
But objectively I would rate it 8.5/10, losing points only because of the LCD (which is still industry-median, but definitely not the industry-best), weight and price (which isn't horrendously bad). By contrast, I would've given the m15x a 9/10 if it didn't have hinge or other body issues across the entire line.
Having a rating of "3802657239" shows this thread is more about how happy you are to own one rather than what you really think of it. -

People who actually don't have it their possession yet voted already too lol. Quite comical IMO.

I give it a 7.5. Mainly due to the lcd issues that I have had along with the touch buttons and touchpad...
The latter is not as major as the lcd.. So far, I have been very disappointed with the quality of the Samsung lcd..
To me that is a major component. If Dell would push back and get better quality screens, and I was able to get one of them, I would rate 10/10..
The rest of the notebook has been stellar and I am pleased with them.. -

I have to give mine a 8.0. The machine is solid with a few design flaws here and there. Actually the more I look at it, it may be shipping damage, but hard to imagine the way it was shipped.
I received my M17x just Thursday and have loved it and worried about it since. I have had a few bugs with it not shutting down properly to not even starting. Downloaded updates from the Dell site and that fixed most of the issues but after that the Alienware Command Center no longer functioned and the cpu is constantly at work.
The possible shipping damage comes down to a (with every passing day) widening gap above the Dvd/Blu Ray burner where the metal chassis meets the plastic chassis. There is also wiggle when I open and close the lcd, with the wiggling coming from the lcd attaching to the metal cover.
Also, the fans work great at start-up, almost like a jest engine starting, but are accompanied by a few strange clicks and then all is normal. The first few days of use filled my apartment with a strange electronic burning smell but nothing has shown problems when I run diagnostics.
I want to love this machine but just not sure she will love me back as time goes on. If I am nitpicking away someone tell me so I know. If there were no issues with my unit it would have a 9.5, but since she works and is truly almost all powerful with a few quirks, I will still give her an 8. -
I'd rate mine 0. Seeming as I don't even have one.

I'm just amazed by this beauty, since my previous laptop had a single-core CPU, intergrated GPU, 512MB of ram and a crappy design =)
I haven't noticed any problem with it yet
