So 30 mins ago, I ordered my m17x! (specs to follow soon)

2 seconds after placing the order I got my phase-tracking number, and a confirmation e-mail (the one with the survey and such)
So first thing I do is check my phase status, and (as expected) it is at phase 1.

Now this "awaiting order" thing, do I need to confirm the order? If so, where? I can't find anything in the "confirmation" e-mail.
Or is Alienware going to confirm that I placed the order? If so, will it take untill monday for them to get to the office and confirm it?

Any help would be appreciated ;-)

    Greetings,
    Bedeone

    //EDIT (specs):

Just remember the phase page isn't exactly accurate. You're better off ringing them once a week or something. I believe thats the phase where they confirm your order. I can't recall exactly though.

Grats on your m17x. Ever consider getting dual 8800M GTXs? A single 8800M GTX is said to be better than dual 8700s but if you're not that into gaming or high quality multimedia then it's not really an issue.

Thanks for the quick heads-up Ennea.

About the 8800GTX, yes I considered them and yes I know 1x 8800GTX beats the dual SLI 8700GT's flat out.
But I'm not into playing crysis on high settings on 1920x1024 or anything, I'm more into photo / video editing and 3D modeling and the occasional old-school CSS / SOF2 & some WoW. And I think that the 8700's will do that just fine (atleast I hope).

In the UK they require a copy of a bank statement or something to be sent- to verify that it's your money...

if you are in the U.S. you don't have to verify anything, but be ready to wait because it took them a week just to verify my "alienware credit card" and to put my order in pre-production before i canceled it. I'm not sure if it varies in other countries.

Also, if you are putting 4gigs of ram in on your own, and you arent upgrading to 64-bit vista, your lappy wont read the full 4 gigs, (just warning in case you didn't know this) but nice specs all in all :)

I believe it is even less RAM with SLi? I could be wrong.

Less utility of the RAM when you have more video memory. So yeah, in a sense, you're right.

I was indeed aware of the 32-bit OS problem, but is 64-bit on the m17x possible?

Anyways, I'm in Europe (Belgium) and paying with a wire transfer ...
Can I wire the money allready, even if I'm in phase 1? Or do wait untill phase2?

Bah still in phase 1, ordered on Friday the 12th, wired money the 13th (even though I was still in phase 1) ...

What's taking them so long to confirm the order? ='<

you wont go to phase 2 until your money is in their grubby little hands. in other words until it has been paid into their account and cleared you wont see any movement.
as you are in belgium which website did you order from. if it was the .co.uk then they usually ask for proof of owner of any card used but as you done it by money transfer im not sure how it works.
get on the phone and give customer service a call.

I'm from Belgium indeed, I payed by wire transfer, so they shouldn't be asking for card ownership and stuff (but I did set the delivery adress to my grandmothers' adress, since she's home all the time and I have to go to school =D )

I was allowed to double check all the info on the screens such as order number and account numbers and such, so everything should be right.

I did indeed order from .co.uk (with the drop down box set to 'Belgium', probably for estimated shipping costs and such).

I do for one know that the wire transfers take a while to go through (and since I wired on saturday, 1 day longer), so the money should be wired by tommorow ^_^
    Let's hope I can see a phase 2 incoming tommorow =)

Also, doesn't the CS close at 17:00? Otherwise I guess I could call now =)

    Thanks for the quick reply.

@Zeltix you gotta be friggin' kidding me =D
Yes I am planning on going there next year for DAE, as I'm finishing my last year in Dendermonde.

But still thinking about a software-development course too, since I find myself short on drawing skills =-/

@MrDJ, didn't ring them, personal stuff came up and didn't have time =S

    Still phase 1 ='<

Still in phase 1 aswell, they should already have received payment. If it wasn't for school starting next week i'd not be in such a huge rush to get it ASAP

Welcome Bedone, When i ordered mine it took 2 working days for the momney from my credit card to clear and then i moved to phase 2... (my review is in my sig if your interested)

And your correct the phase page is almost accurate but, it pays to ring once a week to check with CS, it's not annoying them, you are just curious (",)

Any problems, you know where I am

Thanks Oodle-bear, I've read and enjoyed your review multiple times =)

The problem is that it takes a couple of days for wire transfers to go through, especially when wireing from one country to another ='<
And since I wired on a saturday (when wireing can only be requested, since Saturday is not a *real* bank working day, it doesn't get through untill the next working day, which is monday), it's going to take a while for the wire to get through.
Hopefully the wire will be in today, (as I'm told it takes aprox. 3 days) and they can handle confirmation and such and forth

    Thanks for the jump-ins,

    Greetings,
    Bedeone

    //EDIT:
    just thinking, won't us, wire-transfer'ers jump from Phase-1 into Phase-3 since Phase-2 & 3 state :

    and

    Just thinking out loud ^_^

I'm afraid that stage 2 is basically "Thankyou, we are banking your money", You will go through all of the phases until you get to phase 4... For me that took the longest but once I was in phase 5, my order was shipped without moving from there so the phase game isn't entirely accurate.

If you're concerned, ring AW and speak to a CS agent, they can tell you what stage your at.

I'd guess it's the same as banking a cheque, it will take about 4 working days to clear and then they will have your payment etc.

Good luck and like i said, ring them to check, it's far more accurate (",)

P.S. Have either of you guys got a mug?

cheques take 5 days to clear so if money transfer is the same you should both be moving soon.im not sure but if you both ordered from the .co.uk site then that goes to ireland and im not sure if they have the same banking rules.

the phase page is totally buggered so dont solely rely on that.

i was in phase 5 for 24 days so youve got a long way to go to beat my record.

Quick question about the RAM upgrade, I have read alot, but just to make sure.

    - SO-DIMM - DDR2 - 667mhz - PC5300 - 2gb stick (is the cheapest solution, doesn't state brand on the website I'm buying from)
    - Corsair set of 2x2GB sticks - SO-DIMM - DDR2 - 667mhz - 200pin (costing about 20€ more)

    Greets,
    Bed.

    //EDIT:
think I'm going for the Corsair - since they are not providing 'nuff info about the no-brand stuff

there's probably no difference, but i'd go with the Corsair kit. plus you probably have a better warranty on it.

because my 1st order was for m15x which was £22.5 cheaper.... I changed it to m17x on monday or tuesday and was told that they will take the £22.5 on that day.....

anyway this is becoming a joke or something
now I know that you cannot rely on anything that you are told by AW CS

you're gonna fuss about one day even though it will take like two weeks to assemble the notebook, and then another two days or so to ship it? sheesh...
