    i've scanned most of the forums starting from the last attempting to find a solution to this, but i stopped on forum #55. =P

    so what i've gone through so far is booting up the laptop using the windows recovery cd, then i pressed f6 when prompted. I then selected the "promise" option when it asked to insert my ATA DATA diskette. The laptop does its thing and reformats. But when it completes, the laptop asks to reinsert the floppy a: disk and press enter to continue.

    that's where im stuck. everytime i press enter, the laptop doesn't seem to respond nor recognize the usb floppy drive. what can i do?

    any help will be much appreciated.

    also, if this thread crosses another, please direct me to it and close this one!!
    thank you =)

    unfortunately i don't have an account.
    this alienware is a hand-me-down. I DO have everything that originally was given, including the manual, recovery disks ect.
    i hope that having the account number isn't all that important in order to solve this problem.

    i have read other forums, however, saying that other users have used an nLite program to solve this issue. but i've already invested into purchasing the external floppy drive and disks to follow the procedure to reformat.

    gosh this's frustrating... >=[
