I thought I would start a thread to help anyone looking to score the best deal on an AW Outlet (AWO) laptops. Just off the top of my head, I can think of a few questions for anyone to help others with. It seems to me that some sellers on Ebay, Ben's Bargains may have an upper hand on getting the best oulet builds just to turn around and resell them. With all your knowledge and experience on this forum, we should be getting those deals. Please post any ideas, horror stories or positive purchases. Thanks in advance to all.

    1. Is there a way to call AWO and get the most updated stock before it gets posted to the outlet store?

    2. Can you combine discounts, EPP, Oulet coupons, or student discounts.

    3. Does anyone have any Outlet sales reps they can rcommend? (Do not post names or extensions) Just PM for the info.

    4. Has anyone made changes to an Oulet config with success?

    5. Dont forget to subscribe to Dell Outlet's emails for coupons and weekly deals: https://ecomm.dell.com/GSC/default.aspx?returnPath=www.dell.com&c=us&l=en

    6. Follow the links for more info:

    Could i add a question?

Does anyone know of the existance of a european Dell outlet which actually has at least 1 alienware notebook in it more then once a year? ^^

If i look at the dell US outlet, and the bloody great deals going ont here, i'd love to know where in europe the equivalent of that outlet is, but i for the love of god can not find it (i can find some dell outlets, but the dutch one for example never ever has any alienwares in it)

I can tell you that the EPP and students discounts don't work with Dell Outlet purchases. I asked about that with several Outlet reps.

Regular Dell coupons (i.e. $50 off Alienware purchase) don't seem to work on the Outlet.

From talking with the Outlet reps, they know NOTHING except what's on the website at any given time. They do the same searches that you do. They also won't be able to see a particular system if it's in your Cart. I talked to 5 of them a few days ago and none of them were willing or able to give me any type of incentive to order with them. I think Dell Outlet reps lack the flexibility to make deals on their own.

No changes can be made the the Dell Outlet systems. They are sitting around in boxes and the order can't be modified outside of warranty and external accessories.

A 15% off coupon for Dell Outlet popped up this morning (expires 2/16) but supplies are dwindling fast. I missed out on the systems I was looking at a few days ago but got one almost as good for a lot cheaper.

jiggy- Of course you can ask any question. I am sure there is someone who has a solution to your dilemma. Also, follow the links to the AWO site and they discuss US puchases shipping overseas, I'm sure at a steep cost. You can always try to haggle the ship cost down. good luck rep +1

Mekias- Thanks for info. This is the reason for this thread, to infom the masses about ordering a refurb. rep +1

Use a US mail forwarding service. You generally sign up, pay a small fee, get the AW laptop sent there and they forward it to you + shipping costs. It might take 3-4 weeks until it's in your hands, however you'll save a substantial amount of money.

    1 word: Customs :p
they easily add an amount higher then what made it worth it to get something form the us.

I buy used alienwares from ebay in the us once and a while (i collect older models).
I bought an area 51 m15x, for 700 dollars a couple of months back.
shipping on top was 75 dollars.

Customs charged me another 350 dollars for actually importing it.
That;s why notebooks are expensive in europe, they hope you go get it from the us, so they can you even harder.

I found this posted by Tusin on SlickDeals: Dell Outlet Tips/Tricks

"Yesterday, I had the most frustration experience I have ever had when trying to spend $900.00. But on the plus side, I did learn a few things from it, and if I can share and help anyone out. Then just maybe it was worth it

Here are a few tips and tricks when shopping @ Dell Outlet:

Stock updates 20 minutes to the hour, every hour. So 12:40, 1:40, 2:40, 3:40 etc.... It does take a minute or two for it to fully update.

Dell wants you to think that there is a 15 minute timer on your items in your cart. Well yesterday, a Dell Rep told me how to bypass this. And it does work.

After your item is in your cart, there is a link that says "Modify Selection" (it is in blue text). This will bring you back to where you can add extended warranty etc.... Scroll down to the end of the page, and hit "Add to Cart". This will give you another 15 minutes, each time you do this. I had to do it for a hour yesterday.

This part is YMMV, but I have always had luck with this. Place your order on the phone! But talk to the business department (no you do not have to be part of a business), and ask them for free shipping. You will get it. I live in Alaska and I am stuck with the $70.00 overnight shipping. Well my Rep bumped it down to 2-day, but gave it to me for free.

Last part. If you see a deal, buy it! Don't keep waiting thinking you might find another deal. Or a better config. If you sleep it WILL be gone.

Good luck, have fun. And thank you Dell, I still have a headache from yesterday."

I have bought 6 machines from there. sold 3, and they replaced the m11x and the m17x in my sig with new builds because of problem. :D the Aurora never a problem. If you have a problem Dell is very good at making it right, might take awhile but the warranty is great. If you buy one try to get the extra warranty at time of purchase its cheaper. Find a coupon for the out let. Great way to save some money. Good Luck let us now what you get!

OoksOo- I do not. The important thing to remember is to stess to CS that you are on a tight schedule and may have to purchase elsewhere. They still want to make a sale.

So far with my haggling experience

I contacted dell today, well earlier yesterday technically, i called an 877 number and the rep told me they can not negotiate prices. I told them that they had a 15% and a 20% off laptops that ended 4/13 and 4/20 respectively and that if they could offer me a similar offer I would purchase today. Well to no avail they would not offer me anything on the refurb items and just she just kept stressing that they had a new base model for 599 right now. I kept telling her on that on outlet they had an i5 for 749 and if it was 15% off that it would be well worth it to purchase rather than the su7300 version. Maybe it was just the rep but she said she couldnt even give student discount on refurb. I would like to know if anyone has had any success.

5- Did you sign-up for the oulet emails? They have offered as much as 30% off certain models. Also, don't hesitate to call another oulet rep. I wonder if you priced out a similar spec'ed HP, Sony or Toshiba from there outlet site and had it to email the rep or just use for leverage? The most important thing is to not give up. And of course keep us informed of your progress.
