Hi all, i just bought refurbished m17x r2 couple weeks ago, so i am just wondering, will Dell know whether my alienware is refurbished one or not?

my alienware condition looks really new and i think none of the parts has been changed. Will Dell know the differences between refurbished or not, if yes, how can they know mine is refurbished?

and, my last question, can we buy the new nameplate separately by calling Dell?

sorry for my bad english :(

    thanks a lot guys! :)

your service tag will be linked in their data base to being refurbished. Though just because its refurbished it may be still in new condition because not all refurbished are used, some are purchased new but not received/returned or built but order canceled, so it may be a new machine never used.

oh..i just know there's refurbished system for alienware.

so, do you(refurbished buyer in this case) got the same service from Dell..? I mean, can you apply for warranty or something like that just like buyers who buy from retailer..?

Refurbished systems come with the same warranty and are treated by Dell no different than a non refurbished one. You can extend the warranty by calling in and getting a price. The only real difference is what you paid and that it had or has a sticker on the bottom stating refurbished. The ordered but never sold systems do not have the sticker. ;)

There is also a massive green sticker on the bottom plate that gives it away with large black letters saying "REFURBISHED." check for yourself

It's true but the laptop came in sealed dell box so the seller couldn't take it off.

Got my refurb M11x R3 from the Dell Outlet 2 days ago. Got the i5 with 4GB Ram, 1GB 540 vid card, and 320GB HD. It came in a regular Dell box. Included was obviously the M11x, power brick/cord, Win7 CD, and owners manual. Mine did not have a plate, felt sleeve, or really anything extra.

Cost $799 which I thought was a good deal.

The only way you can visually tell it's a refurb is the green sticker they put on the bottom.

One thing that is bugging me - when I reboot or it wakes up from being closed, it tries to install a driver for IEEE 1394 Controller and it can't find it. I think this is the FireWire port.

Besides that small niggle, I love the system. After only two days, I am hooked on the speed, lighting effects, and muscle-car looks of this little beast.

I would go refurb again, and I would recommend it to my friends.

Not all refurbs have the sticker, both the Precision and XPS i bought from the US outlet didn't have any sticker.

Got my M15x from the outlet when dell had the 15% off coupon going. Got a redonkulously good deal on it. It was a S&D model and all the scratches are so small they're pretty much unnoticeable. So far so good on performance and reliability.

Are you sure you weren't looking at an "Outlet New" unit instead of "Certified Refurbished"?

Weird, but they might've just jacked the price up then since there's a 20% off/free shipping coupon for them right now.

Good deals in the AW outlet store. Lots stuff new to older models. With the warranty that comes with it you can't go wrong. Gonna look for one there in a few months after I sell my 13" macbook pro and after we move.

I didn't see that exact listing but did you check the screen resolution? The 6 gigs of RAM is a $100 new upgrade. The screen is $75 if it's the 900p screen. There's also the possibility of upgraded wireless card too.
