    Hi Guys,

Had the M17x for a while now and have started watching HD movies and such on it. I am aware of internal infra-red...something..for use with a remote.

Is there a place I can get an Alienware remote or at least a neat looking compatible remote (UK)?

    Thanks

I believe any old generic media center remote control will work, (I've tried a few and they all have)

I use a remote i bought off eBay for £2.50, In theory any Express Card shaped media center remote should work.

Do those media remote cards require media center?

Just what I was going to ask!
Also - besides standard MC remotes, had anyone found any small/slimline remotes that would go with my laptop? I feel carrying a TV-style remote around a bit big.

It has been a while since I used an official media center remote or my bluetooth expresscard remote to verify what other controls are possible in various programs, but I seem to recall it working for the media program you set as your default because I had it working on PowerDVD previously.

If your universal remote has a code for media center, it will work with any of the microsoft media programs too. I first started using the expresscard remote with Windows XP Pro, then XP Media Center Edition, but it will work for any version of Windows Vista or 7 too. Occasionally I will use our universal remote to turn on media center for the pc connected to our home theater & "accidently" activate media center on my wife's M17x-R1 because I pointed it in her direction first. It is especially fun to do when she is in a raid & I'm not online.

No, the buttons just translate to a keyboard press, i.e left is pressing left on the keyboard etc, but media center is a bonus, i think it comes with Windows 7 Home

After Taz's message it has occured to me that it is an Expresscard Remote I am looking for. Only one I can find though doesn't really tickle my fancy.

Anyone know a site I'd be able to get one on? Google gives nothing and I have tried Amazon, Ebuyer and Play.

    Thanks
