I Just got my m15x back that was having issues with no sound from the HDMI and yet another cracked hinge. They repaired the hinge again and installed a new motherboard. I am in the process of doing a clean install of windows 7. All is going well, except when I get to the point of installing the OSD. The OSD works for everything but changing the Graphics Card Fn+F7. When I do this I get the usual window popping up telling me The computer needs to restart. When I select OK nothing happens, and from that point onwards the OSD fails to work.
I noticed that this motherboard came with BIOS vA00 P3. Do you think it is worth a try to install the vA03 version? I have tried calling tech support but the guys, wherever they are, are as useless as screen doors on a submarine. They just keep telling me to re-install the drivers and that I must be doing something wrong.
Anyone else had this issue with windows 7 and the OSD not working?
I have followed precisely the exact order of driver installation as listed on the alienware support site FAQ #6048.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

make sure you have the drivers installed correctly, both to be exact. The intel one and the nvidia one. Sometimes the Intel one is hard to get going so you gotta force it by reomving the dedicated GFX card from MOBO, I know what you're thinking yikes...
But thats what I had to do once....

Also, can you first try it to get it run with vista 32 bit to see if its a hardware issue? -
oh well my m15x had all sorts of Static Problems with the touch controls not working properly so mine is currently being sent back to Alienware for repairs.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. The system is already in the INtel internal graphics mode. The directions on Alienware say that I must first install the OSD drivers, then switch to the Nvidia Graphics and install the nvidia drivers. Since I can not switch to the nvidia mode, I can not install the nvidia drivers. If I try to install them now it will just say hardware not found.
The interesting thing is that when I sent my laptop in it was using an x3 bios. Now it shows up with an A00 bios. So the motherboard is completely different and there are no A00 Bios on the alienware site. I see that Dell support has A00 A02 and A03 Bios' . Should I be using their site now instead?
Confusing... but I will try loading the 32bit software of vista I guess to make sure there are no hardware issues. the people fixing these things are the worst. I specifically asked them to test ecerything before they sent it back, and instead it came back to me like this.

Nvidia Drivers are from where? My Hive right?
-
Yes, downloaded the stock Alienware drivers from my hive. FAQ #6048 lists in detail the installation order of drivers.
I formatted my hard drive, and put a fresh factory backup of windowsvista home premium back on and all hardware and software functions as it is supposed to. WHen I install windows 7 as a fresh install everything works bu I am unable to switch video cards. Time to call Roswell yet again. Very frustrating.
