Im trying to restore m15x with the Alien respawn thing. When it gets up to 90% the computer shuts off and reboots. Then i get the blue screen. Any ideas why this is happening?

    Could be....
    1. Virus
    2. Cpu overheat
    3. damaged parts
try to start it in safe mode.... if you can its probably a virus, if not then you can always try applying some new thermal paste... If all no, then contact alienware for support

Could be a defective disk or hard drive as well. Try and plug the hard drive into another machine and run a diagnostic program on it such as SeaTools for Seagate Hard Drives.

Hiren's Boot CD has all the software you will need.

sorry to hijack this, but how do you get a 64bit version of your OS if they only provided you with the 32bit version??

You'll need to find a 64 bit Vista disc.

You need to look at what the blue screen is telling you. If it does start in safe mode, it doesn't by any means point to a virus. More likely an issue with a driver or something, but the blue screen should tell you what it is. Try and write it down and post the message here.
