ok big problem here for me I ran Riva tuner on my 1530 the core clock domain, core clock shader and memory mhz section of the graph is not a straight line.. it freaquently is going up and down up and down and looks something like this:

    ....__...__...
    __| |__| |__

(Dont mind the drawing, I tried my best, but it looks

blocky like that, squares, goes up and down) and this is minute by minute or even a few seconds

Now from what I am seeing, this is not a good thing right? Is it downclocking? Temp on the gpu is just fine...

Also when I first start riva tuner, it says "unsupported driver deteccted" could this be why it might be giving me these results?

    Please let me know thanks

Also, did you just ran the riva tuner program or you ran it in the background while playing or using any benchmark tool? Also what Windows are you using and what power plan. If you ran the program alone it might be the normal windows balanced powerplan. It downclocks to save power. If you were running a game in the same time... Lets see the graph.

That's normal... it's just downclocking when not under stress so that it won't be running at full speed all the time. There's three different clocks the GPU runs under.

Also, the unsupported driver doesn't have anything to do with this.

    thanks for the help guys,

It happens when im playing an old mmorpg game called anarchy online and it does the same when idle. It looks like its going up first then down etc....

Also I thought it was my drivers so I uninstalled my stock driver and downloaded the laptop2go driver 174.3.1 for vista 32 mb and it couldnt install, I got the "setup detected that the operating system in use is not windows vista [32 bit]. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on windows vista [32 bit]. The isntallation will be terminated"

I could have swore I ordered this system with windows vista 32 mb. I tried to check but couldnt find anywhere oin my comptuer that stated if it was 32 or 64,c an u guys help me with this, my notebook has no video driver atm.

And how do I post my graph? dont have any programs taht takes screenshots from my notebook

When posting a reply scroll down and click on "manage attachment" then "choose file" and "upload".

BTW make sure your laptop is running on external power not battery.

Easy! You use the super secret button in Windows!

Did you know that the Print Screen/Prt Scr/<whatever your keyboard button is> takes a screenshot of your entire screen? :D

Then, go into Paint (or whatever else), Edit -> Paste, trim it down, save it to a file. ;)

    Did you follow these steps?

    3-step process:
    1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
    2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
    3. Install & reboot.

Get back the normal drivers, if you didn't feel the need for new drivers (in a game or what not) you really don't need them and you're better off with the dell ones. After getting those back up if you want to check for downclocking run the tests posted here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235506

with the riva tuner monitoring in the bg.

got it, installing now, thaks for your help.

And how do I run it in the BG? its running on the desktop and there is no option to minimize it, only to close it. And how do I check if it downclocks? Do I run 3dmark06?

Also I posted screenshot when computer is idle, look above post. How do I check ift downclocks?

Just keep it running you can't minimize it.

Make sure when you are testing your laptop it's is plugged to the AC adapter.

so rivatuner monitors the processor, gpu etc. To make the test you need something to stress the system. With Ati Tool you can stress the system by doing what it is said in the thread above. You can also use gpuz, cpuz but if you have the riva tuner you should be fine. Also you can run 3d mark 06 while keeping riva tuner opened and see how your graph looks like.

It looks like a very good result, I'm guessing the step download you can see in the begining is prior to the 3dmark forcing the system too boost up.

so if it had downclocking problems what would the graph shows?

and how do I check my video card specs? LIke the core clock speed, shadeer memory clock etc...? to check if its performing normally?

Check out the same thread I quoted before on the 4th page you'll see Choey's results.

For the specs you can see them on your system info I guess or just google 8600 :D.

ran rivatuner while I was playing crysis for 20 minutes and Smoothtofu was right, it does that when its not udner stress to conserve energy, when I ran crysis no downclocking, was a straightline at about 70 degrees C
