ELLO!
when it comes to RTS games like WC3, RA3, starcraft 2 (whenever the ***** they release it) and the like, which has the upper hand, nvidia or ati, or does it really not matter? like should i go for M17 or m15x?
cheers
-
hmm. good question. RTS games rarely need much graphics horsepower, but if you must know, i'd say Nvidia, simply because the drivers are more mature.
-
Well SC2 will most likely run on either machine very well since Blizz is notorious for making their games play on anything. I don't know about RA3, heard bad stuff so I stayed away... WC3 is ancient by today's standard so either card I am betting would run it completely maxed no problems at all.
-
first of all,, that was fast replies!! 2nd of all thank u guys! =) i guess i'll toss a coin then, to save me the anxiety of making a choice... *pathetic sigh*
-
First of all you need to decide what kind of laptop you like better, since one has a 15" screen and the other a 17 one, no to mention weight etc.
-
dont really matter with me,,,i mean i am kind of having an electronic crush on the M17 as it has greater upgrade possibility;...size is not an issue in THIS case... i do not play alot of fps games and i certainly care nothing about any benchmarks....all i care for is RTS games and maybe turn based games but i hardly thiink those would be too demanding...oh yeah and also excel, powerpoint and last but not least, word! =P
-
what about money ?
-
in my own personal benchmarking tools, the cheaper the laptop, the higher the score
-
lmao, excellent post.
-
Grazia, Grazia
-
Haha
then its how upgradable it is
(aka how long its gonna last you). And in that point M17 seems like more future proof since it already supports a quad core and as many people said the new 4series ati.
-
WHAT WHAT WHAT??? hold on! it supports the 4 series?? how come i missed that! is that for sure?
-
It is supposed to, yes. 4 Series ATi cards won't be out for another few months though, and no clue if AW will allow you to buy the cards to self upgrade later.
-
Well ofc Alienware doesnt give info about that, but since OCZ are gonna have the option (which basically the laptop is exactly the same as M17) so i doubt if Alienware is not going to do the same. Theres a discussion about that around here somewhere
And dont forget, a decent M17 setup costs like £1400 which is pretty cheap! -
argh!!! hmmm...could u define "a few month" ? im not gonna get it b4 jan/feb, would it have come out by then? (say yes even if the answer is no!)
-
Yes.
(And by that, I have no clue what-so-ever) -
oh right cool...well im pretty tired of waiting, if the 4 series not out by end of jan im getting whatever is on offer... and a cold pint of FANTA!
-
hahahaha cheers templesa!! thats what i wanted to hear! =)
-
i have supreme commander forged alliance, and it cant play on max settings, heck no laptop can(as of yet), but i can still play it on pretty high settings.
-
Haha, you are certainly welcome.
-
For RTS games, GPU won't matter that much. With that said, the M17 would be the better choice with the newer CPU platform and quad core.
-
which of the cpus offered with the M17 would be enuf to play most rts games? and how long (in years) would it last till an upgrade would be needed?
-
how are we supposed to know? me personally, i can't predict the future...
-
hmmm true true...alirght,,, would a 6mb cache make a noticable difference in gaming over a 3mb cache cpu?
-
for RTS games, probably, yeah. lots of repeated instructions etc IIRC.
-
thanks whizzzo
Rts!!
