Running M17 without the bottom? Will it hurt?

This time I have a quite stupid question but I am a carefull guy

Does it hurt my M17 when I removing the "bottom" and go on playing after that? Without the bottom (you know what I mean? this party with the screws^^)

You would definetely HAVE to have the bottom of the laptop elevated off the ground, if you blocked the fans you'd definetely suffer overheating.

By the way, you asked me to run Crysis benchmark tool, where can I get it? Is it on the disk or a download?

One is for Crysis the other for the expansion (Warhead). Depending on which Crysis you have.

 

I have both I presume both benchmarks will give the same results? I'll run the Warhead benchmark now, but I'll install Crysis while I do it and do that one afterwards.

 

Doubt it will give the same results, similar perhaps but since its a different environment they wont be the same

 

I think Crysis will performe better because it's not that demanding, I SAY NOT THAT xD not .. NOT demanding

For me I would like to see Crysis because I tested alot with it (but I still have WH as well but you are right I shoult use it aswell )

I don't mean putting something under it to block the fans, I have a cooler and I think the bottom "thing" (I'll search a picture) does block the airflow

Kay, I'll benchmark Crysis once it installs. It's installing as I speak.

You could try it without the base on a cooler, I doubt it'd overheat like that.

Ahh, no, I see it better now. I thought the fans would be flat on the desk, stopping air flowing. That won't go with the fans flat on the desk, so yes, it will improve your temps, and no, it won't hurt at all.

 

youll be fine julian, just make sure theres a clean spot to keep it.

 

I wouldn't do this for long periods of time as you'll have dust buildup inside your machine easier running it this way for days on end, but for onesy twosy type operations it should not be an issue.

i use my notebook cooler i built, I have a 120 mm fan under each gpu and the cpu

your temps will drop 10 c maybe

I will just test it this way and in the future I plan to make a second "bottom" and only cut 2 wholes in where the fans are, so there is no reason to fear the dust, because tha fans blow the air directly out of the m17!
Am I right?

My biggest problem except the loos during selling my m17 is the fact that the m17x in a quite as powerfull version would cost easily more than 2500€ (I payed 2000€ for my m17 and the start price in germany is 2000€ for the m17x with Q9000 and 4GB Ram DDR1333MHz)

well for me im gettign a single 260 gtx which should be enough to play games and then i will get another 260 or a pair of 4870's when they are released. They are going to be released actually for this laptop.

mine will be 1975 with a 7% discount. the only upgrade is going to be 1900 res screen

 

I don't get it ... 1€ is around 1,4$ worth ... why the hell do I have to pay 2000€ for a system that cost 2000$! THAT SUCKS!



I don't need the Q9000! (which is the lowest in germany) and I should paly extra 200€ for the T9600 ...

Not quite that hard^^ I can get single 260^^ But in America the T9600 is cheeper than the Q900 and I have to pay 200€ to upgrad from the Q9000 to the T9600?

OK I calm down Thx mMo but the tax^^ you know ... 19% in germany ... I would still save some money but I would need a german keyboard as well^^ Z Y = Y Z

I know my m17 can rock the world but I hate to not be able to max out Crysis Warhead^^ (I know to max out CW I have to spend more than 3k into a m17x )

o i thought ya'll we like aussies and stuck with q9000 and sli 280's for base

the 280m gtx can fit in there so that will play crysis better but every other game will run better with the 3870's

maybe the 4860's will be in Xfire and mxm2.1.....one can hope right? half the tdp

 

I am not too sure wheather I'll upgrade something ... the gains are not enought for the price I think ...

May be I'll wait for the next m17

same here, i dont think i will jump ship, now i have ordered a quad for my m17 this will see me through until the next "all powerful" prob with mobile i7

then i will flog this one on eBay and replace

 

Ive put mine for sale on several sites..for too much ofcourse..gonna see if im lucky and someone wants to buy it.

If people are interested then im instantly ordering the M17x
