chaz i don't know if you watched the most recent Alienware network video but they openly said... m15x black skullcap in the next fue weeks... its like? they just lied to us as to hold off demand till now... and then make us sucker in for a normal silver that we could have had months and months ago...
its just plain wrong tot publicly say some thing is going to happen that will affect people holding off orders and getting hyped up(twice now actually)... and don't delver.. its .. well lies?
the only reason i can see is to curb demand but keep people hyped... its a very crule practicei could have had a m15x for my whole past semester of studies already if it was not for this wild use of promises.

To be fair, they never gave a specific date.
Unfortunately I don't have any information on the black chassis guys.I'd love to share that sort of info with you.
No word on m17x review units yet either, basically I'm waiting on them. I was put in a queue to get one. If I had to guess, I would say mid- to late June for the review units; I was told about six weeks from when I was put in the queue. Then again I haven't seen anybody actually get one yet; the review units won't be shipped until after the first batch of m17xs get delivered to customers, so it could be longer.
I'll let you know of any developments. Right now all we can do is wait . . . and wait . . . I do wish Alienware would have more accurate availability dates for stuff like new notebook releases. -

Alienware is pretty retarded.

Just my 2 cents. -

The black design was that not promised by AW Steve?, the guy who got the boot?
hmm me thinking, me reaching a conclusion.. -
I saw this. I ordered friday but called up and changed my order to be a skullcap today. I think I'll go with the silver over black.
-
I don't remember anyone specifically stating "black skullcap" in the AW videos or on here. I remember "skullcap" in the video but not black. I think the whole black skullcap craze started because there was a picture of the m15x in black with skullcap before it was officially released and people just did some assuming. Personally, it would look a little odd to me to have silver ripley and black skullcap for m15x, with black ripley m17x and silver skullcap. Keep them the same color.
I also think some of you guys are getting bent out of shape for no reason. As Chaz said, I can't think of too many other pc manufacturers that let you choose from 2 different case designs. Kudos to AW for giving us that option.
As it stands though, the pictures don't really show anything new updated with the chassis other than the lid for the lcd assembly. There might be some minor changes but we won't know until it ships. -
@Groove - If you followed the AW craze then you would know that they actually announced the black skullcap option. If you search engadget you will see that when they announced the M15x and M17x, they showed the M15x with the silver ripley design AND the black skullcap design, indicating that it was a color choice.
The only reason people are bent out of shape is because AW hinted at it a lot (even going to the point of making a m15x with it.). -
-
@Groove - I found what I was looking for.

If you look through those pictures, you can clearly see a black M15x with skullcap offered. There is even a video (not going to look for it) that shows people touching the Black m15x so it was real at one time, but I think AW scrapped it because of the ****ty sales of the M15x so far since it costs more money to do a black paintjob in addition to a silver instead of just all silver with swapping the front.
Edit: I was looking through those pictures and I realized how much the guy with the handlebars and skunk hair reminds me of someone who knows nothing about computers at all. I mean seriously get a guy with a suit or something and the same colored hair and a cleanly shaven face to talk about their products. I don't know if you guys agree with me, but seeing him talking about AW is kind of wierd in my opinion. If the guy in those pics is on these forums, just clean up a bit before you present, I just don't think the look really works. -
All the Alienware employees are playing world of warcraft and they only shower on tuesday's during server shut down for maintenance
-
lol nice zilu, i doubt black is going to happen, its far too late, even skullcap came out too late. Your fine stone, you have the best looking chassis ive ever seen in a notebook, i love how the m9750 looks
-
-
I would rather play Lord of the Rings at least it stresses the system some. I am glad They told me the right day on the skull cap. But it not the system I want.
-
The previous models of alienware was made from separate barebones. They had to make their own casings and some got paintjobs, so the ones getting paintjobs were expensive. The present models are made from the same ODM provider, QUANTA. So we have a much "cheaper" system.
I think the m15x and m17x model names will stay along with their design. They will get platform updates, but retain the same brnding, at least for 2 years ( a guess ).
well.. I still don't have enough money to buy one of those. -
Hay dingbat I was told last week when the skull cap was to come out Monday. He told me about the M15X getting the skull cap. which I was thinking of getting. He was right. It came out On monday. What I did not ask about was when the M17X would be out.
I am now thinking of getting the M17X laptop. Not due to power but due to picture Qualtiy. -

AtolSammeek, (Unknown m15x or M17x)
I have been asking myself the same question for like 6 months I've come to these conclusions maybe this might help you.
What do you want: (I want maximum gaming performance in a laptop because I require portability over a desktop system)
How much portability do you need (I need very little I wont be using it on the train in the park etc (I have a PSP which is designed for that (sure it can't do all the same stuff but enough for my travels) and using alienware on the train etc, says rob me please) only to travel to different countries via airports.
**I hear that: Maximum gaming performance requires laptop to be plugged via the power cord (so to me that downgrades portability option to me even more) - gaming performance off the battery isnt as good.
M17x Possibly and probably (games designed for SLI and some other games) better gaming performance which means more future proof then a single 8800 gtx (as gpu upgradeability unknown to my knowledge)
M15x Better portability/ more battery life
So I prefer the m17x, do I have the budget for m17x not really more like the m15x dou !.... -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I was in the same position when the m15x came out, but i wanted the fastest machine, not portability so i chose the m17x.
Both have the 1920x1200 screen option but the 17" is a better size for gaming i think...
Anyway, If you start saving now you might have enough money to buy the m17x instead, it's simple strategy, do not place an order until Chaz or Packer445 have completed there review of the m17x, which going on the slow pace of shipping out the m17x will be in July sometime...
Just my 2p...

Yup totally agree and working on it - cheers Oodle-bear.

Listen exiled You might be going picture quality is good. I think it depends on the person. Looking at a distance my eyes are bad. But looking up close I can read Miro Printing. If you take a USA currancy $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 or more I can tell if it a fake just looking at it. It a line on the bill that says United States Of Amarica About 4 times. To normal people it look like a line. But I can read it.
Zilu
Battery power I dont care. It mainly so if I need to save something before battery dead. Safty zone.
The M15X seem to be Hot. Overheating. In some people.
Traval I use a low end laptop. Acer laptop Music and sound Videos.
I wish they had desktop replacementh desktops with out the battery. More power with out a battery -
Cool man - good luck I can offer my thoughts as a guideline as I'm not real tech minded and my thoughts have been decided with the help of the other guys on these forums (thanks again fella's) I think if you have concerns with overheating - read the warranty doc's or invest in a larger warranty time I believe you can do this down the track as well not only when purchasing but I'm not 100% - or maybe go through another company - I'm mezmorized (and I admit it
) with the good looks of the m15/17x like most which is why I'm not ordering from Sager (and the fact that UK Sager options suc - and ordering from the US suc's even more - postal and tax is a killa.)

To be honest, if you fully load the m17x, 2.8Ghz, 1.5Tb, Blu-Ray, 4Gb and run Vista on high performance with the CPU fixed at 100%, the onboard battery becomes nothing more than a UPS device anyway.
I'm looking for a desktop replacement, basically something that has the same sort of power but doesn't have the seperate parts and cables etc.
To me the m17x or high end clevo/Sagers are not notebooks, they are desktop replacements. Powerful but not really what you'd call mobile as they are very heavy, hot and don't have battery life...well not really anyway!

Almost everything apart from the chassis eh?
Well like you i'm hoping that the m17x will be a good machine as it's the only one a really like the look of at the moment.
I'm hoping that as Dell are now involved they have taken a look at the XPS1730 and it's cooling layout, which apparently works really well even at 3.4Ghz... and taken notes because i'm thinking that fully loaded the m17x will get very warm....

Dude I already known that. My Pro-Star is a Clevo. A P4 3.4 extream edtion with l3 2 Mb of cache.
Fact the Laptops now are better then the P4 laptops I had. Mine would only drop to 3.7 ghz to save power. That a fact. So you would get mybe 30 Mins on extra battery power. Also it was also a Windows xp pro.
Newer laptops are able to drop lower in power and save more engery.
One more fact I am not looking at power I am looking at size. -
And one thing Oodle-Bear I am holding this laptop so when they send the new laptop I can send this one back. Or I would be stuck with no computer for a month.
-
Well all I can say is that is bad luck - a matter of chance unless everyone else with that laptop experiences the same/similar faults - you should probably forget about it when making your next purchase and not go off previous experiences (harder said then done - I know - but one can't live in the past and must move on and trust technology to advance).
-
It was bad luck. Having no laptop for months is a pain in the rear.

I'm having to use my work laptop at the moment, it's 1.73Ghz Centrino (single), 40Gb, 768Mb RAM & 15.4 (1024x768) oh and has a "Shared" 128 graphic chip, onboard so it's *$@!£ but, at least i can get online for mail etc.
I want my own notebook that does what i want, when i want without BSD or just freezing entirely.... So i understand what it's like to lose your notebook.
My Inspiron had a DVD burner that didn't play anything but, until the Hdd went was a good machine...
