    Hey all

I seem to have a problem with SLI on my Alienware m9750.
When I first got this, I made the mistake of getting Vista on it. I uninstalled it and put XP on instead. I've updated with all of the Alienware drivers found on their site. I've also updated the chipset, BIOS (v. 0F04), VBIOS (6851-2), and the two nVidia 8700M GT cards are running the 6.14.0011.7528 drivers.
    Here's my other specs:
    Windows XP with SP3
    T7600 dual-core CPU @ 2.33 GHz each
    2 GB RAM

I only just installed the VBIOS today. Between installing XP/the BIOS and installing the VBIOS I'd have a problem with resuming from standby when I had SLI enabled. The screen would do this rainbow effect, with bright colored pixels everywhere, almost as if the screen was inverted, but it wasn't that clean. I could make out enough of the screen to get the computer to restart, at which point everything would be normal.
So after installing the VBIOS, I tested it again. This time, the mouse cursor is a small white square, about 80x80 px, and the rest of the screen is black. Windows works normally, I just can't see anything.

I've looked over the SLI guides submitted by Chaz, Grey728, and Stone825, and they recommend 3rd party drivers. Right now I believe I'm running the 175.28 beta drivers from Alienware/nVidia, but the 175.63 Tweakforce drivers look newer. Should I try some of these drivers? Should I follow Grey728's guide while doing so? Is it something else that's causing the problem?

    Thanks for any help.

You can follow my guide or grey's guide when you install the tweakforce drivers. You can also look for some newer driving on laptopvideo2go (you have to go to the forums).

Okay, well I went and tried installing the 175.32 drivers first, which unfortunately didn't do the trick. But I did discover that I can simply go back into and resume from standby and my display returns to normal.
Which makes me wonder if it's trying to display off the secondary card when it comes out of standby, instead of the primary.

I'm going to see about getting some more information, then trying out the guides I've been given. I think 177.66 drivers from laptopvideo2go are the next step, but it's difficult to determine what drivers actually work for what cards on that site..

Okay, well I went and followed Stone's guide and installed the 177.98 drivers....

...and voila! I can resume from standby with no problems!

Thanks for the help, guys. :)
