Hey guys, I know a thread on this topic was made before but I'm curious again now that the full version has been out for a while... Who's got Vista SP1 going on their m15x right now? Did you have any driver issues when installing it?

For me, Vista SP1 still isn't appearing in my Windows Update list, which suggests that there would a problem with updating (however, if SP1 doesn't have a problem with the m15x then I can use the standalone installer). Did anyone else with an m15x who updated to SP1 have this problem too?

I used the stand alone installer and I had no problems.

Yeah, I think Windows Update is scared by the presence of Realtek drivers, even though the ones the m15x uses aren't the ones which are actually incompatible with SP1.

    Thanks

I clicked the Check For Updates button and it found it. To install form Windows Update you also had to have been up to date.

    thats a REPORTING fix only.

you can enable PAE mode though... which will allow the system to use all 4GB of RAM, however, most drivers are incompatable with PAE... more specifically, I noticed my nVidia CP wouldn't load when PAE was enabled.

Believe me, I did that several times. All that was remaining for me were Ultimate Extras and a bunch of language packs.

As far as i know all new m15x are delivered with SP1 already installed.
FYI MS released the SP1 in severeal stages, at first computer manufacturers got new "system builder" versions of vista (=intended only to be sold preinstalled on new computers) with integrated SP1 in the beginning of feb.
Then in the beginning of march, the sp1 installer was made public for download but not via windows update. I don't know when the SP1 will be made available through windows update, but I know it was put there accidentally for a day or two!

Update: just checked, and SP1 is available via windows update since middle of march, here are some possible reasons if it doesn't show up in wu:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343/EN-US/
(I think I still don't see it, because I modified my version with vlite...)

Yeah, I checked that list before and the only one of those things that could have possibly applied was cause 5 -- the hardware driver problem. Since it mentioned a Realtek driver in that list of problematic drivers, and the m15x does use Realtek drivers, I thought that must've been what was causing the problem (even though the m15x uses a different set of Realtek drivers than those listed). However, Lessaj now says SP1 did appear in Windows Update for him on his m15x, so that hypothesis must be wrong. So, really, I have no clue as to why it wasn't appearing.

Just so everyone knows: SP1 doesn't do more than showing you that you have 4GB of RAM installed. It will still work exactly as before (with less than 3.5GB being used, the rest just thrown away).
If you want to fully use all you RAM ask Alienware for x64 drivers and OS!
