Right, well, at some point I'll wack a review down, but for now I've just got a couple observations after a couple days of tinkering and just getting to know my little beast.
Okay, first and most important, I'm not at all regretful with regard to buying the m15x. Obviously the performance is as expected (awesome thus far - crysis is in the post =D ), so I'll just comment on the common issues that have been reported:
+ Screen wobble seems vastly reduced compared to the videos I've seen, and is not a problem in the slightest.
+ No downclocking or super high temperatures.
+ No scratches on the chasis that I've noticed.
+ Touch controls are basically just lovely.
+ No apparent keyboard lag.
However
- The light pipe is very thin and dim, and not completely even, to the point that with some colors it just looks like the monitor is leaking light out the sides.
- The volume control jsut isn't even as good as an HP's.
- Thw optical drive isn't just loud. It's stupidly loud. Loud to the point I'm considering using virtual drives in place of discs (other than of course for installations).
- One of the 1920x1200 wallpapers is just a 1650x1050 with a black strip down one side. That's just not cool.
Still, the m15x remains a marvel as far as I'm concerned, so hurah!

grats man! what about the creaking when opening the screen? still loud and clear?
-
Grats on your new m15x.
I agree, the light pipe is rather thin. I think they could have, I guess, accentuated it more. Have you upgraded to the X34 BIOS? I've heard that it greatly improves touch pad responsiveness, specifically volume control's responsiveness. I actually don't find the optical drive to be very loud but, maybe that's just IMO.
Good to see you haven't had any major issues though. Welcome, m15x brother. -
yes...congratulations - and good to hear you are enjoying it thus far...

Got me the x34 BIOS pre-installed. Having just spent a good number of minutes (I have WAY too much time on my hands) practicing with the volume control though, I'd withdraw my innitial statement. Just takes a little practice and the volume control becomes an absolute gem!
Yeah, with the light pipe I've seen that some of the older ones glow like smegging halogens; is there concievably a way to pump more power into the light pipe to make it really shine?
The creaking is certainly audible, but not something I'd have noticed without specifically "testing" for it (not really much of a test; open... close.) It doesn't annoy me, and I can't imagine someone checking my m15x out - under my supervision of course - noticing at all once blinded by the magnficence of the unit, much less turning round and going "ha ur screen creaks, you = fool!" So to summarise, meh.
Oh, and one last thing, definately not feeling the 1920x1200 is too small. Maybe because it's a mere 10% smaller than my old one, but I basically love all the screen real estate. And i figure it's small enough that not using native res in crysis won't look bad at all. Only time will tell. -
thx for the updates...and glad your enjoying the m15x....

Good to hear. I don't think you can make the light pipes any more vibrant than it is, unfortunately. We have similar specs so you should be able to play 1920x1200 on medium-high (DX10). There's this one chapter that I had to go medium and a few low settings just to get steady FPS in. Otherwise, it's not too bad.
