Just wanted to post this as I think a lot of people were waiting for these and they just went up yesterday.
500GB, 250GB, 120GB:

And the first review happens to be for the Alienware 15.
I'll assume this is still TLC? -
-
Still not a sign of when this is going to be released in Canada! Daaaamnit! I want! I bet it'll be a gouge-worthy price in Canada, though.

TLC? Tender loving care? Who gives a crap. Stop whining like little girls over TLC and MLC. The people who were going to buy the 850 EVO are still going to buy the 850 EVO despite everyone's whining. -

I think this is in the wrong section, btw. -

I'm not debating TLC vs MLC, lol.

@bnosam
Aren't you able to get amazon to ship it to Canada if you use that link?Last edited: Mar 27, 2015 -
Someone saying, "I assume this is still TLC nand?" while not intending to bring up the debate will because the response to this is either one of two answers. If it's no, then it must be MLC nand, and thus the debate will most likely arise (again) supporting it or otherwise. If it's yes, then people will most likely complain about it, thus bringing up the debate (again) and so on... That was my problem with it - the potential for debate.
My post wasn't specifically "at" him. It was geared toward anyone ready to start debating TLC vs MLC (again). There's already a thread with dozens of pages about it in the SSD section of this forum (where this thread should be). Seems quite obvious.Last edited: Mar 27, 2015 -
I actually looked at Amazon under the assumption bnosam did before me, and they don't even have the M.2 listed for sale. Ebay has the 850 Evo M.2 for sale, but only in 120 GB and 250 GB capacities. -

And the only reason that the 840 evo has problems wasn't because it was TLC, it was because Samsung used a 19nm fab which caused issues that they didn't expect when used with TLC because TLC memory is more susceptible to voltage irregularities.
That's why with the 850 series they went back to the 40nm fabrication because its more stable.
When the first MLC drives came out they had a metric ****ton of issues compared to SLC drives...if everyone listened to people like you we'd still be using horses. -

Either way it's a group of drives that needs more options.

For those of you who prefer the Pro model (non M.2 of course)
Amazon has the 850 Pro 512GB for $289
That's probably the best deal you're going to get for an MLC drive with (currently) the best performance available. -
in for one via Amazon. 3-5days to arrive. can't wait!

Now I just need to get the system they are going into up and running ^-^

Nope, single GPU laptop:
Has one of these -
Man I could give a flying #@#& about TLC/MLC. Still got my trusty Crucial M4's in Raid 0 reading 1TB a second to this day. By the time they start degrading they'll be replaced anyway.
Intel 750 nvme makes everything look slow now. -

Yes but it uses crazy amounts of power.
