    Hello,

Im selling my brothers m11x, Its got a custom nameplate on the back... Since his full name is there I wouldn't like the new owner to have it.

Removing the nameplate is not an option, would look really odd. I was thinking maybe I could sand it?

What do you guys think? I'm thinking maybe by using sandpaper of about 1000 I could give it a nice BLANK look...

after you sand it (perhaps with something higher as 1000) you need to wax it to make it real shiny. start with 500grit , then 1000, then maybe one more higher, then wax it

Or you can order a new blank one :D
I don't think the result will be as the original if you sand it...

Sand it? no I thinks you should just remove it. I sold my old m15x without it and the buyer didn't even notice.

the text side has indented screw holes. it wouldn't fit properly upside down.

I really think you should just remove it. Whoever buys it will not be thinking about the custom name plate. If they really wanted it that bad they'll just order one from dell with their own text.

you'll need to go to a minimum 1500grit and then purchase special buffing compound (not regular wax) otherwise it'll look like crap/cloudy. If its actually engraved and not say, just printed on there then you're not going to remove it anyway.

Removing it is not an option...I think its better to have something sanded than just have a little empty space that clearly looks like something is missing lol...

I think I know what im gonna do. I'm gonna mask the name and just sand the name off completely...

I wouldn't remove it as it might look a bit weird. Just put a sticker over the name or something.

It's not yours anymore.. not really your problem. Leave it to their digression as to what they want to do about it. It's not like it has your SSN on it, and it sits on the bottom anyway.

If he's considering sanding it off, I'm not sure he'll consider a temporary (and removable) solution like a sticker.

It all depends on how much Dell sales the empty plate for. If you are talking about $10 then just get a new one... If it's $100 then have it sanded by a company that makes metal engraving or plates... You can find them in the phone book.
