Will the sandy bridges use the same socket as the current procs in the r2?

No. You will need a new motherboard for the new socket.

If Intel releases in Sep (which is what they say will happen), it'd be likely you won't see it in some AW model till Dec. I would love to see one in Sep, but AW is not known for bringing out models at the same time as an Intel release. There is testing to do and so forth, although they should in theory be able to test on the prerelease stuff that Intel makes available to designers. For whatever reason, the M17x managed to lag the release of chipsets by several months.

We should get a better idea of when PCs using Sandy Bridge might be available at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco this September.

Intel Sandy Bridge Comes Out Ahead of Schedule - May debut this year instead of 2011 - Softpedia

websurfer is correct.. sandy bridge brings IGP to desktop and laptop users whether they want it or not. The new sockets are LGA2011 and LGA1155

Yes, systems might "come out" with Sandy Bridge this year, but just like in previous releases, often it will take several months before you will actually receive the laptop in your hands to use.

just for media/inform the customer as well as generate interest. Dev's get the specs to know what to make way before a soft launch.
