I noticed that EUROCOM model http://www.eurocom.com/products/showroom/specselectnew.cfm?model_id=189 is a SantaRosa design and is able to go up to 8GB RAM. Since the chip set is not the limitation to reach the 8GB why AW does not propose the same deal on there latest and greatest models?

9800M GTX... -
2x4 gig RAM cards?
-
pc mircoworks doesnt promote the santa rosa its a montevina.....
-
-
http://www.pcmicroworks.com/edge.htm
scroll down right under the Vista logo.. -
but its no good to us as vista 32bit will only use just over 3gb and 64bit no hardware works with it.
catch 22.
also noticed:
nVIDIA Geforce 9800M GTS 512MB DDR3 EXTREME GPU ETA 6/30 [-150]
nVIDIA Geforce 8800M GTX 512MB DDR3 EXTREME GPU
the 9800 is 150 less than the 8800
any idea why? -
lol you guys are killing me, the "edge" aka m860tu equid with montevina.
-
@DJ, the montevina supports 8GB ram, you just need 64bit vista installed to recognize them.
9800m gts is slower than 8800m gtx, thus cheaper. -
i understand about the 64bit but will any hardware actually work with it. -
little extra info: Mac actually supports 8gb ram since a year ago -

Even more to the point its a 9800m - so what level are mobiles up to in comparison with desktops? about 8 series???? yay....
-
-
I really want to know how muc better is the 9800m GTX compare to 8800mGTX
-
well with 64bit OS, why not? you'd just need more RAM slots...
-
I read some info about Montevina but I could not find any info about, that with this new generation an increase of 8GB RAM capacity could be achieved. -
-
why is that big excitement on 8gb of ram
it wont do that GREAT difference over 4gigs will it?
-
BTW you can have a 4 GB RAM DISK which will improve and reduce the access to your HD. -
I was talking to an AW Sales support guy and he told me that m17x is capable of going up to 8GB and @ the moment AW does allow you to configure your system in that way, because according to him is excessive?
Excessive with the current Microsoft OS probably. But for my pesonal point of view if I buy an m17x is to have it for at least 4-5 years without worrying me about not enough HD space or RAM.
I bought 5 years ago my sony srx-77 and @ that time 256 MB was more than enough and today we find average systems whit 2 GB, that is 8 times more than what I have in my old lappy -
The Santa Rosa Chipset can address up to 8 gigs of space. It has the same problem as napa had with 4 gig. If you put 8 gigs of RAM, then you will probably be able to see/use about 6-7 gigs due to the limitation of the chipset (some memory will go to gfx card, chipset, etc...), even WITH a 64-bit OS...

Dunno, it's not out yet.
-
what is AW m15x chipset?
