    Hey everybody,

I just got in my Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm OEM bare drive. I noticed in the M17 cage one is supposed to screw in the hard drive. The only problem is that the bare drive didnt come with screws.

Is it ok to put it in the cage and bay without the screws and it still be secure?

    Thanks for the help?

I suggest you to get some screws from ebay or AW if you want your drive to last longer.

I got screws free from Alienware by simply asking for them. Try giving them a call.

Theory on why it would last longer with screws vs no screws: more induced vibration. The more vibration, the more latency and/or damage while the hard drive is reading/writing. You'll also be using the physical connection as support instead of the screws which might, over time, damage both the hard drive and motherboard of your system.

    Get the screws.

Also, worst case, you could pull 2 screws from your first drive bay and use those in your second drive bay as temperary measure. Certainly beats not using any at all.

Exactly, the internal vibration or external vibration can make the drives bounce inside by 0.01mm which will eventually damage your hard drive.

yeap, should at least have one on each side, less that is bad for the hard drive
