My HDD used to hang sometimes, making clicking sounds.

I decided to test it with seatools, downloaded it and ran a test (long).

After it hang during the test i had to reload my notebook..and now there is no HDD detected anymore (not even in Bios).

I tried the DOS version of seatools...same result...no HDD detected.

I took the HDD out and put it back in without result.

Anyone have an idea what else i can do?

    Cheers

If the HDD was faulty and on it`s last legs, the Seatools app might have been the last straw as it would have stress the hdd during the tests.

Can you hear the HDD spin up when you power on the machine at all?
If yes you might have some luck with an external USB hard drive case, if not then I could only assume that the disk has had it.

I can hear it spin, i think..

The HDD LED is lit when the machine is powered on and when [ressing F10 for the boot menu sometimes the HDD is there, and sometimes not...

I was having a problem where mine wasn't booting then I realized that I had changed the boot order to using a USB device as my first boot and the system was stopping on it. Once I changed it back it booted back up fine. There is two places that you can change this option. one is F10 as the system boots which is a one time choice. The other is inside the bios itself under the boot menu.

From the sound of it the hard drive really is on its last legs and you should definitely try to get anything important off it either a, using a usb case or b, a live cd of some kind (BartPE etc) and then replace the drive

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but if a hard drive has bad sectors on it, does that mean it can be fixed through a format, or is the hard drive itself physically damaged? (I'm asking because my brother's laptop has multiple bad sectors on his hard drive)
