Problem: I am the owner of Alienware m17x and my comand center show me that all of the alienfx lights are devided into multiple sections. For the last couple of days lights of section 10 ( from scrool to stealth mod button) are not working.

Possible cause of the problem: My friend advised me to use a register cleaning programm called Registry Mechanic. After using it I noticed that lights are not working.

Please Help if you have any idea how to solve the problem.

    Hi. Welcome to the forum.

It doesn't make sense that Registry Mechanic would cause LEDs to not work. Even if it changed a setting, Comand Center should be able to change the setting again and you get your lights back.

It almost sounds like the LEDs burnt out, but that's such an improbability, that I find it hard to believe that would be the cause.

Apart from the registry mechanic I did not do anything special with my laptop for the last couple of days. I tried to restart computer, change the setting in the comand center and nothing helped so far. NOTE: that it is not only the lights that are not working but the actual buttons also. For example I can not change the volume using the volume button.

Try the power drain. Take out the battery and charger, then press and hold the power button for ~30seconds. Dell recommends up to 2 minutes, but that's up to you.

    try the following:

    1) unplug battery
    2) unplug power cord
    3) hold the power button for 10 seconds
    4) replug battery + power cord
    5) start the computer.

If that doesnt work, there may be other reasons for it to be broken. You can try AlienFX Lite (look at my sig) and see if that helps.

There are also 2 additional things which might not be in order. First, the cable connecting the media bar with the motherboard might be loose. Its easy to reattach yourself. (Look at the service manual). If it still doesnt work, then I would blame either the mediapanel itself which needs replacement or in the extreme case the motherboard.

My bet right now is that the cable got loose.

Whee congrats. Apparently power drains solve a lot of problems, so do try it out as a way to solve most lighting problems.

Maybe someone should figure out how to fix this so that having to completely drain power from the system isn't our only opportunity for a solution.

I find that my AlienFX tend do screw up randomly and I've required a battery pull at least 3 times since getting my new M15x last week.

If anyone has a Blackberry whats the first thing tech support tells you to do. :p
