What are some ways to add security for this laptop? I have the notebook security wire which i can attach to somewhere. What are some ways to make sure you wont get stolen from XD
-
don't loan it out
don't leave it on a table
never leave it in your car
notebook lock
encrypt all your stuff and run DOS as your MAIN OS
basically just don't be a retard and leave it laying around ? -
Don't leave it in the parking lot while you upload your How To Video's... lol

Run DOS as your main OS. -
I like the suggestion, but I'm going to upgrade to MS-DOS so I can be hardcore.

Given this systems weight, try only using it around small children/weak people, they won't be able to lift it if you leave the room.
-
Unzip and have fun on it.
When people see the stains on your Black m17x they'll think again before touching it. -
lol, nice =P
-
definitely laptop lock
Then probbly store it in a backpack and padlock that.
If your still not comfy, put the backpack in a suit case or safe and padlock that further.
If still uncomfortable put 50 thousand passwords on your laptop and/or never use it when other people are present. -
buy a fingerprint usb hub thing, and load your computer to use this and only this for logging into your computer.. not a cheap one ($100-$150), but one for around $300 and you'll be very secure... one that is approved for the DOD (department of defense)... very accurate..
Cheap one cant read your fingerprint as well, like if your thumb is a bit sideways, it wont regonize your thumb..get a good one! -
Hi Judas543,
You'll find that this laptop can easily grow legs and run away. Anyone who has ever owned an Alienware discovered that they had to watch it 24/7. This would be equivalent to leaving a Ferrari parked in a getto. Even with a security cable, someone will find a way to take it. If someone wants it bad enough, they're going to try. Protect it with you life

another cool thing that i found, (not sure if this would make your "actual
computer safer) is, this new usb stick called the iron key (i believe) its casing is hard hard metel... its the 1st usb with level 3 security or something, which if someone tries to hack in using/ forcing it to open, it erases everything.. but that would suck, but if stolen, its not like youd be getting it back or anything, so erasing is a good thing
Ill try to find the link... www.ironkey.com
•AES 256-bit hardware encryption in CBC mode automatically protects files — no software to install; uses the algorithm required by DoD for storing Top Secret data
•Security Level 3 FIPS 140-2 validated tamper-resistant and tamper-evident design that includes:
- Hardened epoxy potting compound completely encasing the chips
- Secure key management – encryption keys are born on the device in the Cryptochip and bound to the device
- Hard-wired encryption key self-destruct defenses and electromagnetic shielding of the Cryptochip
•Works on Windows XP, 2000, Vista, Mac OS and Linux
•Rugged, hardened device — strong one-piece aluminum case is waterproof to military specifications
•Active malware defenses —
- AutoRun protection – secures against AutoRun worms
- Read-Only mode – enables the device to be unlocked to read files but prevents malware on untrusted hosts from infecting the drive
- Trusted Network restriction – prevents the drive from mounting on uncontrolled PCs
- Optional antivirus/anti-malware scanning cleans the device in the background
•Remote management software — enterprise-class management capabilities, including remote policy enforcement, remote data destruct, secure device recovery and self-service password recovery
•Trusted supply chain — research for the IronKey architecture funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; all research and development performed in the USA and boards built and drives assembled in secure facilities in the USA
•Available in high-capacity 16GB models -
best advice would be go to the gym get really really buff (arnold style) and make them your pants.
I mean would you take his laptop?
