I've been salivating for an Alienware laptop for many years and knew for sure it was a pipe dream and I'd never have one. Time, space and unexpected good fortune fell into place when my Sony Vaio PCG GRT-380zg of a lemon gave up the ghost for the forth time. This being the third break down with the same problem but this time out of warranty. They wanted $800 to repair it.
Today Feb 27, 2009 I sent in my banks cashiers check for $5565.30 for an M17. I would have gone with BluRay but I will be making CD's of my own music and I might use the LightScribe. If they offered the BluRay burner as an option, I would have chosen it.
I wonder how long I'm going to have to wait.
A week to clear the check and then three weeks? 4 weeks total?
It's been years and years since I've been excited about a material possession.
Here is what I ordered;

Wow, great setup - that's a real monster. Congratulations!
-
Welcome to NBR. You should write a review for us and run some benchmarks,in other words Crysis. You will prob. be able to max out ANY GAME. And WOWOWOWOWOWOW
What a system...congrats and welcome to NOTEBOOK Gaming. -
nice system for sure please do come back and write a review and throw in some bench marks on the SSD and what kind they are
-
Thanks for the well wishes!
I'll post benchmarks and a review when the smoke clears. -
WOW! Maxed out basically everything with a solid state drive as well. That is an absolutely crazy machine. Congrats!
-
Congratulations. Just out of curiosity though, how long have you had your VAIO for?
Enjoy your new machine and post some benchmarks/pictures!

Going from that VAIO to the monster you've just built is going to blow you away. Congratulations!
-
paying for it or waiting for it.
It's been pins and needles since I started configuring it knowing I was going to get one. This is just torture!!!
Two things are setting the arrival time back and that's;
1. Paying with a cashiers check
2. ordering Extreme Performance (RAID 0) - 512GB (256GB x 2) Solid State Drive will take 10 more days because it has to be ordered.
There was a second item on order but I can't seem to find it or remember. So I guess that part arrived at the mother ship already.
I may be hospitalized by the time the alien arrives. :cry:
I'm guessing early April for arrival. -
lol that sucks i had to wait 30 days for mine so i know the feeling

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
very nice system, im very tempted to get one they look really cool but the parts for them are extremely over priced like £80 for 2gb ram WTH???
-
Hmmmm that's bad news. I've heard more bad things about this laptop than good things. Very bad things. That's a lot of money to spend on a computer. Might as well just get a 500 dollar laptop and use the other 5k for something productive instead. Anyways congrats I guess but that's way more than that laptop is worth and it's probably going to cack out like 80% of the M17X and M15X here. -
what bad have you heard about the
<s>"Whitebook"</s>/M17????
its a solid machine its super expensive and i couldnt get it but if he has the money no reason for him not to if he wants he he did earn the money ....don't bash him for buying something he wanted. he also could needed it for work ....like video encoding or decodeing ......not many quad core laptops .... -
god thats going to be a BEAST!
congrats =) -
There's not much enjoyment waiting for a PC to catch up & react to an input.
Power & speed is a need.
But I am curious as to what these " bad things" & " Very bad things" are that Blackhalo has been hearing about the M17.
And thanks for the " congats" Blackhalo -
Congrats on the system
There are no bad things as far as I can tell
the laptop is a solid machine doesnt overheat and performs well, the only bad thing 'back halo' maybe talking about is alienware company its self
The m17/whitebook is brilliant enjoy
Could you please enlighten us black halo -
For better or for worse, the Alien has landed. Got here 20 minutes ago. Have some chores to do before I can get to it though. Will let everyone know my opinion and the marks when I get it going.
-
I'm jealous - both of the system, and that you have it...
I just started the process, ordered mine yesterday, advised of a backorder on graphics card today, looking at early april arrival...
I hate waiting....
Edit: Oh, and congrats! I'll eagerly await the report, along with the rest of us. Particularly interested if you have any heat issues - though I didn't opt for the solid state drives, so mine with a conventional HDD will probably run a touch warmer than yours, I'd guess. Heat was a big issue in my old laptop, and I'm paranoid that the new one will be touchy as well. -
-
Hey congrats man,
IMO that's money well spent and on a superior product too. Obviously it's money well spent in your opinion too and thats the only one that matters.
