For anyone who's gotten a laptop order recently I only ask, how accurate was the shipping estimate?* Was it faster than you were told? Longer than you were told?
*I'm not counting order delays such as backordered parts, failed QA Inspection/Benchmarking or changes to your order.
Would have searched, but apparently I'm not allowed to.

Well once it's out of the factory all of my shipments have been faster than the expected dates... but as for delays. Well, that's hit and miss and I'm not sure anyone could really give you a fair estimate on that... Just my $0.02.

Btw, what do you mean you weren't allowed to search??? :S
-
The more you talk/think about it, the longer it's going to be delayed.
-
From Florda to California it takes about 7 to 10 days.
-
I'm not sure, but I think he means the date it shipped from Alienware... did the computer ship earlier or later than the "Estimated Ship Date" shown on Alienware's configurator.
If that is the question, the configurator showed an estimated ship date of June 24 when I placed my order on Monday, June 9. As of a week later (June 16), my order is in Phase 9 -- Your Order Has Shipped.
So for me I'd say they were a week early! Yay! -
-
Yeah, getting the same message.. I suppose they disabled it.. upgrade your dedis NBR!!
-
Well, I ordered mine on March 26th and I received mine on April 9th. The estimated shipping date was actually April 23rd so it was a lot faster than I expected.
Also, I live in Central Florida so it's maybe 3-4 hours from Miami. They shipped mine on April 8th at 5pm and I got it at 12pm on April 9th. -
Well appparenly I went from phase 6 straight to phase 8. (didn't check it enough to see 7?). Assuming it will be shipped soon. My estimated date was the 27th of this month. I ordered on the 25th of may I think.

Sometimes it skips... they don't input it for EVERY stage ALL THE TIME.
-
Edit: Superfantastic awesome. It's been shipped. -
Sorry to double post, but I do have another question. Editing won't help me. >>;
My laptop is supposed to arrive tomorrow and chances are there isn't going to be anyone here to sign for it at the time (Site says by 5 PM, I work 11~9). I was wondering if anyone has any experience (In Canada preferably) with Fedex not having anyone to sign for it?
Since it should be clearing customs without a problem will they just leave it at Canada post at the end of the day if no one is there to sign? I can't imagine them think for a second to leave it at the door. If that's not the case do they behave as UPS and keep attempting to deliver it until they get a word from you?
Thanks. -
Well, I can tell you my experience in the US. You generally need to sign for valuable packages - which yours certainly qualifies as. If you're unable to sign, they'll leave a note on your door and take it back to their local hub. You can go directly to the hub at the end of the day (when the trucks return from their routes), and pick it up direct from there. You'll need a tracking number and photo-id. If you don't pick it up, they'll try to deliver it again the next day.
If you want them to leave it somewhere without you signing, you may be able to call FedEx, give them your tracking number, and authorize them to leave it without a signature. -
Still wondering with Canadapost though. I believe Canada uses Fedex for their priority courier next day shipping. That makes me think that they may leave it with the post office.
Not aware where a Fedex pickup location would be in my town though. So if that's the case hopefully they will leave the address. -
No Canada Post, just FedEx for all shipping.
-
Tyrien, if you have any trustable neighbors authorize for the package to be delivered there if your out. This way your neighbors can just hang onto it WITHOUT OPENING IT until you get home
Also make sure you tell them about it, and if they have kids. Don't forget to tell them how valuable the package actually is.. -
If your not home and there a family member it should not be a problem. Alot of times I ask a friend next door if I can leave a note on the door to drop it off there and they sign for it. That if you trust that person lol.
-
Anyway I think I have it covered. It left Mississauga at 8:42 this morning. So it should be here within 3~5 hours. I won't be home but someone will be. Me not risking my $2000+ dollar purchase getting turned away also left a note with my health card with the family member that's going to be home. I doubt that was needed but I don't feel like risking it.
So should have it waiting for me when I get home. o.o -

Hey folks! I've been watching this forum for quite sometime and enjoy everyone's input and knowledge! Anyway, from my sig you can see that it took me 21 days from the day I ordered my m15x to to the 'shipped' phase. (Hopefully early next week I should receive it).
The estimated ship date was July 2. So it's roughly 13 days early!
Also, when I purchased my m5550 it also took about 19 days to go from phase 1 to phase 9. -
yeah i was just in phase 2 yesterday then i went to phase 5 in the afternoon, and now this morning im in phase 6!! this was all after being in phase 2 for over 2 weeks!
-
It's really tempting to wear this get-up next time FedEx shows up at my house for a delivery. Just open the door and ask, "You need me to sign anything?" and see what happens... -
It's sitting in my front living room right now. Teasing me.
Stuck at work, 5.5 hours till I'm off.
Very tempted to go home early. -
whooo! phase 8 now! thats amazing, and im not sure whether to be happy or nervous seeing as though it only took them 1 day to build it and less than a day to do the so called "200 point" check
-
I stand by my theory that the 200 point check is either a check they write themselves after putting your machine together or that they give themselves 200 points on the awesome board for not slitting their hand open.
-
i think they do the check the same way that dell does it.

how long does phase 8 usually take for everyone? or is it pretty different?
-
I'm on Phase 8 right now, so I can't tell you until I've passed through it, but it seems people are generally on it for less than a day, with a few slightly over. When I get through Phase 8, I'll let you know how long it took for me. As it's the final checking stage along with packaging it up, I can't imagine it taking very long.
-
Phase 8 always seems to go by really fast! Sometimes just hours. It's will be shipped before you even know it! Congratulations to all on getting their new system soon!
-
Yup. Got it today, typing on it now.
Only problem that I have is that the tech who diagnosed it must have forgotten to pack it up with my Mouse I got with it. No mouse :/ on the invoice but not on the checklist "N/a" beside mouse on the tech check. They're sending me one right away though, probably going to take until wed~friday though since it's the weekend and it won't go out until monday~tuesday. Stupid processing. -
Hey new ones... can you please post your impressions regarding the questions on the following thread?
Thank you very much. -

Again, if people receiving their laptops wouldn't mind and just answer the questions on that thread it would be great. You would be helping the old boring and sour old people like me, and the new owners alike.
And I think it's never too much to stress... Do spend some time to set up your monitoring programs to prevent any serious problem coming to your laptop. -
still in phase 8 but when i get it i will let you know how it goes!
-
yay!! phase 9 today. does anyone know if they count saturday as a business day or not?? because im leaving town on thursday which would suck because ill be gone for 10 days!!!
-
sorry, lolo... Saturday and Sundays are not business days
-
as posted in another thread...I must have been lucky with mine. Best I can figure is that mine was already built and someone canceled. I ordered mine on wednesday at 3:00PM MST and I got the email from fedex with the tracking number at 2:12PM MST today. Estimated ship date was 6/30...I should have it 6/24
-
Congrats pilotguy415!
You'll have to give us all the details.
My shipping date is supposed to be July 3rd, and since they're on Phase 8 now I'm hoping I'll get it next week (Preferably before Friar_Tuck does). -
-
-
well fingers crossed ill get mine before thursday, that might be a stretch tho seeing as i live probably the furthest in the US away from miami
-
cool deal I should have my setup soon
Phase 5: (Production Phase 1 - Assembly) -
Even though I haven't been waiting nearly as long as some others, I am just way too impatient to wait, I would kill to get my order to phase 5. -
Well I did this setup So I can get the laptop Faster. Then I can upgrade it when I get the funds.
-
atol
if you are planning to upgrade gpu, cpu, and hard drive then i recommend you just wait until you get the funds to actually get the parts when you order. if you upgrade later it will just end you costing you more money. those 3 parts are basically almost the entire m17x. -
Well that what most people think exiled and your wrong
But if you ask before you buy. You will find it unture. I pay about the same cost for dual gpu then you would on the Alienware website. Plus there a new CPU comming out. It will drop the price of this CPU which means lower cost.
Let start some facts. Ram 4gb on Alienware laptop $350 where I payed $80 for it. I wonder where I am losing Money?
Hard drives. If you know where to buy from OEM supplyers you are able to buy them 20% to 60% off. Cool deal.
Why pay for a CPU at $900 When the gpu will do you good. If you wait a few months when a new setup out for Alienware. and that same cpu is $600
The fact is I will pay less for the same system. Then you would when you have a full setup.
Where some people pay $6500 or more. I pay $4000 or less.
So what do I lose? I think I save $2000 or more for my next laptop.
Fact is High end is cool but is waste of money. If you upgrade over time in a year or so you save tons of money.
You can do this with anything. -
i know you should upgrade ram, hdd yourself since AW prices are ripoffs. But if you plan on updating the GPU you should just buy it with the system.
i doubt the price will drop unless they really want to get rid of the 8800m gtxs. you will also have to pay shipping back to AW which is just more money out of your pocket. after that, the 8600s that you have will be useless so they will probably jsut sit there and collect dust...
Shipping laptop estimate.
