I have a budget of no more than $2500 for a laptop, and I was kinda set on the Asus W90Vp but since they are not only out of stock (seems like forever), but now after all the issues folks are having with it I want to go somewhere else now I think.

I was pricing a M17 and going the 2.5ghz route with vista ultimate 64bit and I priced it at just under $2500 including tax/shipping.

Is this a good way to go or should I wait for something better or for maybe prices to drop a little? I don't really want to wait more than 2-3 weeks max.

    Advice?

    Thanks. :)

well seeing the prices at alienware and seeing that ocz whitebook is not available for 6 weeks I say you wait for the asus.
See now the specs of the Asus and compare it with the best specs of the M17 that you can get for 2500$. then see what you can get for 2500$ with the ocz whitebook. (not ocz anymore though...)

the m17 is not as out priced as the previous post may desire you to think.
the m17 is a power house with room to grow.
there is hype that 48xx gpu's will be coming out for the unit as well as an OC BIOS.
dont get caught up in the BS from flamers about the "moral" or "price" of AW...if you want it, get it...
you can do things to downgrade the price a bit. just ask people on the forum about your possible configuration, and you will get do's and dont's and helpful information on where you can save...

    good luck....

I guess I am a bit of a fanboy...but they matte finish with the skullcap lid is frikkin awesome....I totally would have went for a Nagamaki from Killer notebooks if they had a matte finish offering - those guys have some cool things going on over there.
I just hate the glossy finish...

Well the M17 is relatively new and already had a recent price drop as well as the M17x...I doubt you'd see another one for the M17 for a bit. The one thing to wait for would be the rumored offering of the single/dual Radeon HD4870's to come soon, what is soon? We just don't know yet. Also you are indeed paying a little extra for the Alienware finish, but it's the coolest finish I have ever owned, and I've owned Sony, Dell and Mac laptops, to me the little extra to pay that is worth it. They don't call Alienware a botique brand for nothing. There's my two cents.
