I bought a notebook cooler for my dell xps m1710 and didnt like it and ended up never using it. It was bulky and the fans did not align where they should. So the xps fans were blowing hot air to the bottom of the cooler while the cooler fans blew air on the outside of the case. It felt cooler but it severely scratched the xps paint over time.

I ended up using the laptop on the middle of my leg allowing the vents to blow cool air to the floor. This was very comfortable when surfing the web when laying around on the couch. I even play CS:S that way. I find it very easy to balance this 15 inch in the same manner.

SO my question is asking the majority of users if they use a notebook cooler? I never have and never had a problem with a laptop, but I would consider changing my opinion if the majority disagree with me. thanks.

I'm buying the Zalman nc1000 for the heck of it. The m15x is a little bigger than the unit but it shouldent really matter. I would like to get the zalman 2000 but im notgoing to pay no 100 dollars for a notebook cooler that will see very limited use since im a busy person and allways on the move.

I got an antec and I bet it does the same, blows into blowing, or sucks into sucking. I haven't taken the time to see, but it is a good idea for long term stuff you walk away. Even if its misaligned, you can get some cooling, heck, prop it up and aim it at the keyboard. I use mine when I defrag, antivirus scan, render in premiere. I have noticed maybe a couple degrees of difference, worth it in my book.

A friend of mine has the M15x and uses the Zalman NC1000. He loves it. It decreases his temperature, and the fan positions match. It sucks the air from the bottom of the laptop and out the back. No need to carry it around, but use it when your stationary for awhile.

i say buy it. like people have said in this forum, notebook coolers increases the longevity of a laptop. besides, it'll help the notebook with cooling and don't have to strain itself to keep cool. i'm buying the zalman nc1000 too. i think it'll be perfect.

i recommend u buy it too. its only around 50 bucks and since u probably spent around 3000+ on the laptop u want it to last as long as possible. the cooler also helps you tilt the keyboard which i think will really help.

    I'd say DONT buy it
They are huge, make a laptop basically a desktop, look ugly, and a laptop should not need them if they are properly ventilated.

    Just a short question:

The M15X sucks in the air on the bottom and blows it out on the back, right?

Where does the zalman cooler blow its cool air to? To the back of the NB or to the bottom?

    Thanks,
    Paendrag

It blows it against the bottom of the notebook, into the intake fans :)

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT. a cooler will increase the life of your screen, GPU, etc. i got the zalman zm-nc 1000 for $45 on newegg.com. this cooler lowers temp by 5 degrees, super quiet, comes in black or silver (have it in silver to match my system), powered by USB, adjustable fan (which i max when gaming), nice tilt, and is made out of sturdy aluminum.

So far the only game I think I need a cooler for is WoW (surprisingly). My FPS like to drop for a few seconds to like 15 and then goes back up to 60. Doesn't do this with any other game though, not even Crysis.

    Thanks for the Info Raziel66.

I`d say a notebook cooler is worth every cent it costs. If I ever should get my m15x shipped, I`ll cool it with an additional Zalman.

The NC-2000 is essentially the same as the NC-1000 but optimized for 17" notebooks. Get that if available. If not, the NC-1000 will work just fine. It is also good for 17", the NC-2000 just better.

Hi guys i have tried several coolers on my m15x and the best by far is the Notepal infinite from coolermaster, overall it lowers the temps of my m15x around 10 ºC, and more importante it is more effective in cooling the gpu. and still cools the whole laptop. an fits the m15x like a glove.
    Best option in my opinion

This is true the zalmans are great coolers but i think they should be used with a fan contol utility coz in my case it cools the botom of the laptop where the termal censor is and the gpu temp goes sky high coz the laptop fans do not kick in.

current temps cpu 49c, gpu 54c room temp around 26c

I always took the philosophy that if the computer is not built to a level where it can dissipate heat on its own, it should never have been sold.
I equate the computer having inadequate cooling to it being defective.
    Thats just my opinion though.

As far as using the cooler primarily as a stand, that makes a little more sense.

I use Targus push fan bases for my Dell XPS M1710 and M1730. The M1730 doesn't really need it, but the M1710 does overheat and shut down when playing UT3, Hellgate London, and similar CPU/GPU intensive games. With the fan base on, no heat-related shut-downs happen anymore.
