Hey guys, should I buy the M11x now, or should I wait another 3months (max) and wait for a potential restock?
-
-
Well whenever you buy a laptop its almost given that within a couple months features will change so it really depends on your needs right now.
-
I dont REALLY need it now, but I need it before July, as i will be leaving the country for a bit. I would buy it if there was a better option for the processer. Do you think there will be a better option within 3-4 months for the m11x?
-
You money your choice. Doubt a refreshment will come out in the next 6 months. Maybe around CES time.
-
well no harm in waiting
-
I would say that there is a good chance a new revision will be out in 6 months, but then again in 6 months after that there will likely be another revision and so on and on.....
-
If you are asking online if you should wait Id say thats your answer... It seems like most of us who jumped on the M11X knew that it was perfect for our needs the second we saw it.
I know it was about a 30 second decision process for me... -
I thought about waiting, but I got impatient. That, and I really wanted a compact laptop with power.
-
My current laptop is horrible (Dell 640m). The m11x appeals to me because of its portability and power, I travel alot and I need a computer that can handle gaming on the go. I don't really play very high end games mostly WoW and thats about it, but im hesitant seeing the processor is meager as my current one is 1.6ghz stock.
One more noob question, Im planning to buy this the 21 inch alienware monitor, the tactx keyboard and the tactx mouse, i was just wondering if you were to hook your m11x up to a monitor where do the keyboard and mouse connectors go the monitor or the computer?
If theres no restock within 3 months, im gonna buy it. -
They would go into the computer via USB.
-
I was told by a reputable source to expect the M11xR2 in June/July.
-
I would honestly wait until a refresh. I'm sure its going to be a decent refresh.

Infernal_Machine Notebook Enthusiast
I have been lugging around a 15" gaming notebook, together with the powerbrick it was close to 10lbs and recently took a job that has me travelling to asia and europe on a regular basis. with all the security checkpoints, flights, airports and hotels, this little M11x is PERFECT for me right now.
Would I have wanted a faster processor? sure, why not. Does it affect what I do with the machine now? nope. not one bit. Besides, it's a 50/50 chance that either this was a parts bin makeup or an actual bang for the buck performance/battery life combo.
Either way when the next one hits, I'll sell this one, as long as its faster, lighter and more powerful -
Wait until they put an i3 or i5 processor in it.
-
-
Hey everyone thanks for the feedback, I'm still thinking if I should wait or not, is there a upgrade system from dell, for example i buy the model thats availble but they have a new part with the newer refresh can i send it back and get it upgraded?
-
i also hope for a 32nm 2cores/2threads 2.4Ghz in m11x (4threads will logically bring the clock down)
-
-
-
Now. (Damn character limit).
-
I hear if we don't own one by dec 21 2012 we all die.
-
M11x is the best laptop I've owned.
I was one of those people that wanted the i7ulv in this notebook and wanted to wait.
It is surprisingly fast with the crappy cpu. I say buy it, I waited 2months before buying because I was skeptical that the machine was slow. After reading the forum and having the notebook for myself I definitely would recommend it. The bezel is huge but the lighting on the system makes the bezel appear smaller. The built quality is awesome(provided that you get lucky and dont have any defects on your machine) ATM the only defect I have is the left mouse button with its spring loose and a malfunctioning wireless card. Mass effect 2 and street fighter 4 runs better than the xbox360 version. So essential the M11x is a portable 360(as long as the game is not a bad port) -
Except for the fact that it owns all of the consoles power wise and performance wise for most games.
-
Just buy it right now and save urself the wait. It's good enough as it is for what its meant to do. It just released so its stupid to wait for a refresh.
-
if you order it now you should have it just in time for your trip in july.
no really. -
I had a similar decision to make, decided to wait after reading Anandtech's review. It pretty much summed up what I've read about the machine; it's a great idea, it's been well executed, but it's flawed. There's those little niggles for Dell to sort out; it needs a CULV Arrandale chip, a better screen, Optimus technology and the fan noise needs sorting. I'd expect those things to be addressed in Rev.2, but then again someone else might get it right sooner. If you're not in a rush there can't be much hard in waiting, surely?
-
Do you really want to be without alienware when the aliens arrive??
Might be a bad day for you. I say get itl. If you play the waiting game you'll never be satisfied. Trust me, I'm waiting for new GPU's for the M17x
-
You guys have convinced me, I'm SOLD!. Gonna order it right after midterms (don't wanna fail). I'm also getting the alienware monitor (21'5), tactx keyboard and a razer orochi and a PS3, all this is for my house in Bangladesh except the laptop ofcourse
.
-
I am not even a gamer, and I am really thinking about ordering one to give it a try. It seems to be the cheapest and smallest notebook going with an illuminated keyboard.
-
it won't be able to power that 21 inch screen. If you want to hook it up to a 21.5 inch monitor, be ready to drop the settings big time or just look into building a desktop.
-
the discrete gpu should be able to feed an external monitor via HDMI at 1080p without any problems - any M11x owners care to confirm?
-
I don't see why a 21" monitor would be an issue unless you're running at crazy resolutions. I output Hulu, Netflix, and when I feel like it, some of my games to my 50" 1080p plasma without issues.
-
I will tell you how it works once i get mine today, hooking it into a 32 inch tv.
-
movies will be fine. I'm talking about trying to run video games at 1920x1080.
-
-
I think the m11x is perfect for me, I just want it to play World of Warcraft and watch videos and do school work, and anyone care to confirm the monitor issues?
-
i am getting 50 fps for warcraft in uld right now, arham i bought it for all the same reasons got it today and love it
I was afraid of the processor but am able to run 3 accounts of warcraft and not lag, i love it.
Also i can confirm this works fine on my panasonic 32inch 720p. -
I would also like to add, the webcam is good, i can pickup my guitar nicely.
-
-
How does Bad Company Look on it?
-
-
probably just fine, i overclocked mine immediately and no problems, got it at 4 only put it down to eat dinner - in all fairness 2 of them are minimized one is up b- the other two on auto follow
-
-
ordered 3/23 delivered 4/2 - it shipped at 2 am on 4/2 and got here at 4:30 - 7 day delivery is what i had too =D.
Su4100, overclocked. -
the difference between the SU4100 and the SU7300 is very subtle, so performance differences are pretty much nil. there is a thread somewhere here about it.
