Hey gang; not sure what to do. I have an aging M15x received March 2008 with a Penryn 2.5ghz dual core and an 8800 MGTX. Couldn't really play crysis and COD MW2 and Battlefield are a bit slow (dips in the 20s). Not really sure if I should get an m17x now or wait until the 480GTX is out.

It seems to be a strange time to buy for laptops. Mobile GPU's are just now starting to advance well beyond the 2 year old "ancient" m8800gtx but I am not sure if the upgrade is truly worth it. I do like to play on the cutting edge and the m15x isn't doing as well right now for me. Should I get the 5870 CF or should I wait a bit (i can wait as I dont NEED anything right now). Seems like the CF 5870s are going to struggle with dx11 games when they start becomming more prominent in the coming year or two. However I am not sure SLI 480's will even make sense financially or even practically for me. Grrr. Thanks for the input...

I'd wait till Sandy Bridge. By that time you'll have one more ATI iteration, a polished mobile Fermi and a whole new platform.

The 8800GTX is more than enough for the likes of MW2.. It should run Crysis relatively well too. My advise is to hold off another 6 months, see what ATi have to compete against the 400 series nVidias.

I second that. Most likely there will be a new iteration of M17x

that's full of bugs like the R1? New platforms are always buggy. Between the 5870 and the 480, they're both more or less equal, so now is the best time for a long time to look into a M17x. imo.
