Well, for those who are interested, there are two Alienware 1st Generation M17x laptops on sale for $1600 on ebay with the silver SKULLCAP design. This is what they should have introduced much earlier. Just thought I'd let you guys know if someone hasn't noticed already.

    I'm aware of that :)

Don't know if I'm going to order yet.

Edit: Also, they have a barebone 1st Gen M17x that's also Silver and skullcap (no HDD, RAM, CPU, mini-PCIe, GPU) for $600. That's a great price for people wanting to start a project (9800M GTXs and 4850s come to mind here). Screen is 1920x1200.

lol yea. Funny thing is it never did come in silver, like ever. Really curious as to how this guy got ahold of these or did he make these mods himself? Perked my interest for a second, was highly considering getting a cheap Area 51 17x to tide me over until the next generation hits us in 6 months but 1.6k is too much, might as well spend another few hundred and get the M15x.

I don't recall it ever being an option on the website, I followed it almost to the start, never recalled anyone who sold a silver area 51 M17x either, nor anyone who ever posted user pics of the silver M17x, feel free to correct me if im wrong.

That's why I posted this; they never sold this combo for the 1st Gen M17x officially, well at least not in the USA. There were a lot of people interested in an M17x with the skullcap lid and/or silver finish.

Best you can use would be an X9000. Not sure if there's a hack yet to get the newer montevina chips to work with it (i.e QX9300).
