Not sure if this is new or not but just got off the phone with support regarding a bad optical drive. No big deal, I have NBD support blah blah but then the rep said "while the tech is out there do you have any interest on making some upgrades to you laptop like memory or a Bluray drive?" I was like what? I did not ask pricing since I was short on time as it was and wanted to get this service call placed.

I guess Im not that surprised since they have you on the phone already so might as well try to stir up some new business.

Just thought I would toss this out there to everyone as a FYI.

On my last call to them a few weeks ago something similar happened to me when I called in for an HDMI issue :p They asked me if I was happy with the amount of ram I had and if I was interested in getting more. I just said "no thank you" and he dropped it completely.

I don't mind, really. They answered in 5 minutes and took 10-15 minutes to help me with the issue. Very happy with the service overall compared to Asus/MSI.

Its your opportunity to negotiate. Suppose you were considering a new fancy xyz or ram upgrade to something Dell/AW can sell you. Maybe get it with free shipping that the lower cost options do not making $ a wash but with less hassle.

Either way its not a big deal and not uncommon.

When I buy gas for my car the clerks try to up sell me to a pack of gum. It seems to be common practice more and more in all busniess :)

I realize this is alienware and not a gas station. I just mean that, over the recent years, the focus on sales after service or up selling has increased in many businesses.
