The XPS M1530 is 1" thick at its' thinnest part at the very front, 1.4" thick at its' thickest part on the back (which takes up 2/5 of the notebook) and 1.2" thick for the most part. The m15x is 1.3" thick all the way across, but it's about half an inch wider across.

This is not the m1530, but you will see some comparison between the m15x and Dell.

m15 comes with 8700 and soon 8600 so is in the same class unless you get 8800.

well of course im comparing them with both with hi end parts, i mean alienware clients mostly are gamer, anyway i still think they are not the same class, cause m15x is a semi desktop replacment

Well I have a M15x on it's way for the wife. So I will compare them both when it arrives. If you are just matching GPU's yes the M15x is a sure win. Although if your comparig the XPS 1530 as it is. The m1530 is an amazing little system that packs a punch for it's size. Besides the electrical shocking issues they had, they have proven to be a real winner around my office. We have about 10 of those systems in place, and I have not seen one give up yet. The systems we have go through hell and back again. I can assure you 1 year in service with us is like 4 years of normal everyday use. Bouncing from helicopters, to ships, to platforms, to land based applications along with global travel. Those dells have held up amazingly. If your lookig for a decent casual gaming system it would have my Vote right now over a comparable M15x. Only because the M15x hasn't really been field tested yet in my eyes. Once we get these issues worked out and I can get it in the field for a year I will let you all know how it holds up.

Alright, thanks. That would be a good size comparison since the m1530 is the average size for a 15".

The m15x is a really nice size, it's only a little bigger than an average 15". Plus, I think that it looks much nicer than the M1530, especially side-by-side. Thanks for the pictures!

You guys must be kidding... The M15x is HUGE for a 15'' and it's much bigger than the M1530 (I know, I had both and my housemate has one). I mean... it's almost twice the size (and weight) of the M1530.

Actually... I would go a step further and say... "M15x, the BIGGEST 15'' in the world!". :D

Well... I have had both and I can tell you that there's no comparison.
Now, if you ask me whether that's a deal breaker... Of course not. People are buying a gaming laptop, not an all-roader like the Dell XPS M1530 (which, by the way, is an amazing laptop and has a build quality that is miles better than the M15x). So of course the M15x will be bigger. And that's not a big deal.
But let's see things how they are... not how we want to see them! :)

If the M15x was built as good as the M1530 then, no doubt, you would have a masterpiece of technology. Like this... a masterpiece of... plastic radiators! :D

yeah well the m1530 has some issues too, doesn't it? something about getting shocked every now and then by the HDD or something...

    No... the brushed aluminium! :)
But that's not "shocking". It's more a tingling sensation you have when the laptop is plugged into the wall. But yes, of course it has its problems. Like most of the laptops do.
I did send it back... not for anything else but the very bad screen.

uhuh, i've heard from various sources that it's quite a lottery which screen you'll get on the m1530. at least that's one thing m15x buyers don't have to worry about, i've heard nothing but praise for the screens on the m15x and m17x.

True... the screen is quite amazing on the M15x I had, I have to say. Though... you never know when it will come off while you trying to open the lid! :p I guess it just makes it ... exciting! :)

LOL, good question. I currently have 2 laptops (that are mine) the m15x and the Macbook Air (dv9000/dv9700/m17x were returned). My brother has the XPS m1730 (previously had the m1710) and a Macbook and finally, my sister has the m1530. What can I say? We are a notebook family :D

The sony Vaio TZ series had this issue as well with the brushed aluminum. My mom has one and I remember I would always feel this weird tingly thing when she needed me to fix / install something.

they found a solution to that shocking problem tho. all they needed was to use a 3 prong power plug for the m1530. the ones that had the tingly feeling were from 2 prong power connectors i think

The m17x did not perform as fast as m15x I believe the bad CPU is the reason. In games, the m17x is simply amazing. My 3dmark06 score was between 7000 and 11800 depending on the mood of the CPU :D. Also, my m15x is perfectly working. I faced a lot of different problems with different laptops but the m15x is the only laptop yet (along with my old Dell Dimension 3000 desktop) that I never had a problem with (I am lucky I guess). The only 2 complains I have now are the touch controls (even after the multimedia BIOS the volume control still sucks) and the build quality is not what you expect from Alienware (all laptops that I mentioned in my previous post are sturdier than the m15x) but these are not an issue in the m17x and seem to be fixed completely.
