You will probably be able to change the HDD in the smart bay. The 9 cell was only offered in Europe as far as I know of, so not many pictures (if any).

the 9 cell will probably stick about 2-3cm out the back, as opposed to being flush with the back if its a 6 cell one.

In theory you could replace the HDD in the smartbay, but as far as i know noone else has done it, so there won't be any instructions on how to do it.

According to the email I got from AW the smart bay batteries are out of stock again and will be at least 3 weeks from now before they have them in stock (and this is for an order placed a month ago)

I have a smartbay related question, too. How can I get a smartbay battery in europe? On the uk orderpage there is only listed a

and on the us only a

In a german forum, it has been said, that the 6-cell on the uk IS in fact the smartbay, but looking at the prices (£42 ~= $80), this can't be right?
    Hope anyone can help?

wow, that would suck. i'm sure they'll start offering SB Batteries when the supply increases to meet demand in the U.S.

It's really a supply thing, if there's no supply, why expand the coverage? so more people can wait longer for a product you can't get enough of? that's just silly.

I'd be fairly sure when demand in the U.S. is met and dies down, the U.K. will get it too, or you can wait till they pop up on Ebay... as for the 9 cell... no idea. 6 cell lasts 2.5hrs + with wifi around 2. which is not bad at all... i can surf the net while in lectures.

I'd imagine with the right amount of effort, the smartbay harddrive can be changed... the question is, would you void your warranty to do it? (on the smartbay attachment, not the laptop) 'cause if you're not worried about the hdd's warranty, you for sure can do it...

FYI, it's an IDE device in there... not PATA.

Might be a bit risky but, could you format the OS and then install selecting the smart-bay drive instead of the primary drive. I'm thinkin ghtat something like Fdisk might be enough to allow you to make the primary HDD a useable partition and the smart-bay HDD the primary logical drive with 100% for the OS?

    Just my 2p

Hello, i was wandering if the situation in finding if the dell battery packs fit the alienware smart dock, if you can send pictures including the connection and the sticker on the upper surface, i can compare them on my end

these are the specs on my DELL smart battery,
type 4R084 - Dell battery module
    li-polymer battery
    rating: 11.1 volts - 4320 milli ampere hours - capacity: 48 what-hours
    dell product number: 4X530 A00
there is a solid upper line, then a dashed lower line after the voltage.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

if anyone has a m15x with the smart battery, or knows a lot about one, can you see if the specs match, or even better, a picture!

    thanks,
    Antony
