So I called AW this morning, and asked about purchasing the sleeve for the smartbay hdd, I was told by someone here that you can buy the sleeve, and put your own hdd into it. When I spoke to the guy there, he lacked alot of understanding of the English language, although I tried to explain what I was looking for in at least 5 different scenarios, He just could not understand, Is this what I'm going to expect for the life of my m15x? I felt like I was talking to someone from Dell.

Is there a way to buy the sleeve for the hdd without buying an hdd with a sleeve? Should I keep calling there until I get someone who knows English?

AW-Armando, Can you please also tell me what size of HDD fits in SmartBay. And Can I put my internal 120Gb into SmartBay and get a 500gb HDD installed within system myself?

Yes there are, Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 HTS545050KTA300 500GB Hard Drive is one good candidate.
Edit: Not sure if that fits SmartBay or m15x internal though... AW can you please confirm?

from what i've read on the forums is yes you can put your current hdd drive in the smart bay cage, and yes the travelstar 5k500 will fit in your laptop, considering its probably what AW uses.

This is good news. As my current HDD just isn't cutting it as far as capacity goes. Still waiting on AW's response for the cage and spacing though. Since I'm interested as well, should I just talk to Armando about this or do I still need to call CS?

Can you ask them the Form Factor for the HDD they use.. I mean are they using 9.5mm (Small Form Factor) or 12mm . Both are 2.5" but size are different. I cant stop myself from ordering 500gb if it fits in well + Smart Bay casing... also what was the price for Smart Bay Casing ?

i put a 9.5mm hard drive into the smart bay. i dont think the 12mm will fit since the lid seems to be touching the 9.5mm i believe.

    here are some pics

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=240250&page=3

the 12mm might fit. i mean 2.5 mm cant be that big of a difference right?

    Success!

I called them this morning, and made the order, If you want to phone number I called them send a PM, I dont think the sales reps will be able to do it for you. it came to about $18.00 maybe a few dollars more after shipping.

EDIT* Also might be more helpful, and less time consuming to call it:
    [Item:M15X SMARTBAY ADDITIONAL HDD KIT-SILVER-PNT, Qty:1]

instead of the smartbay sleeve for the Hdd

HD + Case, they didn't give me anything on just a case.

    *Edit*

OO, I see what you're saying, rereading the e-mail they didn't specify. I guess it could be just a HD.
Assumption would be with the case as well. Wouldn't be much of a smartbay HD without one. I can send a reply.

    Don't think the 7200 320gb is cheaper than the 5400 320gb.

Ironically enough, she said "It Should". Apparently no one really knows. Must be like a drawing or something... you roll a die and sometimes you can actually use what they send.
