So I called AW this morning, and asked about purchasing the sleeve for the smartbay hdd, I was told by someone here that you can buy the sleeve, and put your own hdd into it. When I spoke to the guy there, he lacked alot of understanding of the English language, although I tried to explain what I was looking for in at least 5 different scenarios, He just could not understand, Is this what I'm going to expect for the life of my m15x? I felt like I was talking to someone from Dell.
Is there a way to buy the sleeve for the hdd without buying an hdd with a sleeve? Should I keep calling there until I get someone who knows English?

steveninspokane,
Let me check on this for you and I will have an answer, Please send me a PM with your account number. We apologize for the inconvenience. -
AW-Armando, Can you please also tell me what size of HDD fits in SmartBay. And Can I put my internal 120Gb into SmartBay and get a 500gb HDD installed within system myself?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Thats what I want to Do FindVikas, ceptswith a 320, didn't know they had 500gb hdd for notebooks.
-
Yes there are, Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 HTS545050KTA300 500GB Hard Drive is one good candidate.
Edit: Not sure if that fits SmartBay or m15x internal though... AW can you please confirm? -
from what i've read on the forums is yes you can put your current hdd drive in the smart bay cage, and yes the travelstar 5k500 will fit in your laptop, considering its probably what AW uses.
-
This is good news. As my current HDD just isn't cutting it as far as capacity goes. Still waiting on AW's response for the cage and spacing though. Since I'm interested as well, should I just talk to Armando about this or do I still need to call CS?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Armando sent me a PM confirming that you can prder the sleeve seperatly.
-
Hm, all right. Have you done so already?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
No, they are only open till 6 EST, so ive got to callback tomorrow.
-
Ah, gotcha'. Keep me updated.
-
Can you ask them the Form Factor for the HDD they use.. I mean are they using 9.5mm (Small Form Factor) or 12mm . Both are 2.5" but size are different. I cant stop myself from ordering 500gb if it fits in well + Smart Bay casing... also what was the price for Smart Bay Casing ?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I'll let you guys know tomorrow, I'll call them first thing in the morning.
-
here are some pics

the 12mm might fit. i mean 2.5 mm cant be that big of a difference right? -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Success!
I called them this morning, and made the order, If you want to phone number I called them send a PM, I dont think the sales reps will be able to do it for you. it came to about $18.00 maybe a few dollars more after shipping.
EDIT* Also might be more helpful, and less time consuming to call it:
[Item:M15X SMARTBAY ADDITIONAL HDD KIT-SILVER-PNT, Qty:1]
instead of the smartbay sleeve for the Hdd -
can you order a smartbay battery??
-

I e-mailed sales, response I got was this:
-
are these prices for only HD or HD+SmartBay Case ?
-
HD + Case, they didn't give me anything on just a case.
*Edit*
OO, I see what you're saying, rereading the e-mail they didn't specify. I guess it could be just a HD.
Assumption would be with the case as well. Wouldn't be much of a smartbay HD without one. I can send a reply. -

Thats copy paste from my Alienware incident the sales rep opened.
She very well could have mistyped I suppose. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
From their website, less it's cheaper to buy them separately
-
get a 500Gb 5k4, not really worth the hassle otherwise imho...
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
more speed, always more speed.
-
no, cuz SB is slow anyway. so you might as well go for capacity.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
whaats this SB you speak of?
-
Smart Bay
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
oh, SB nm. actually, Im going to put the 120gb that comes with the system in the "SB" (haha ok I'm a dummy, sue me), and than buy a 7k2 320 and put it in the chasis.
-
oh, okay, that makes more sense.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
But than maybe I would be better off keeping the 120 in there, and buying a 500 for more space, great, now you gave me dilemma's.
-
going by naming convention they have used, they have specified the color as well... so assuming its HD+Case -
Smart Bay...
