I really wanted to jump on a m17x but theres just a huge jump in technology just around the corner I could not.
I mean 4 Cores each hyper-threading, and Turbo Boost with 4 cores at 3.06 Ghz thats fast.
-
Turbo boost won't run all 4 cores at that clock.
If you're waiting for 32nm, then I hope you have a lot of patience -

I have a lot of patience. 32nm Westmere, here I come.

Once that's out there will be some new gpu coming out in a couple of months. Then you'll wait for that.
Rinse an repeat forever -

I tell people to buy the greatest current tech their budget permits, but realize while new stuff will come out, it does not automatically render their system obsolete.... -
For me, montevina works just fine.
I don't do any heavy encoding, etc. I am not saying I wouldn't like a moble i7 just prefer to wait until the tech is out and all the kinks are worked out.
Penryn might be old, but it works darn well for most everything
Oh, and I would only want the 32nm and that is a long ways off..... -
32mn i7 will be next year. While you're at it why not wait for half a year after it and get the mobile Sandy Bridge processor? Or the one after that, or the one after that...
Waiting is useless. Technology advances so fast now there is and always will be something worth waiting for in a few months. The only time that might end is in 2012 when it's been predicted costs will be prohibitive for shrinking processor technology any further and so the processor advancement will slow down. -
i'll b looking at a new machine when I7 comes out with dual 3XX cards until then
...its nothing new... -

The first generation 45nm i7 will be short lived just like Yonah. Wait a little longer. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5045460&postcount=25

32-nm Westmere quads won't be released until some time after Q2 2010....means late Q3/Q4 2010 for actual purchase.
And that just means you'll be able to buy them in a laptop not that they'll be in an Alienware laptop with dual GPUs. -
^
Like I said, you'd have to be a VERY patient person to wait for that. -
Patience is not a virtue I was graced with.

This is for GPUs:

CPUs by x3.
So when can we expect 32nm Core i7 machines?
