Anyone heard anything about the M17x getting i7 processors?

Seems werid they wouldn't release the option simultaneously?

I read a short review yesterday whereas they were benchmarking an M17x (Core 2 Extreme QX9300 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and two nVidia GeForce GTX 280M GPUs) against a Clevo W870CU (Core i7-920XM CPU, 4GB of DDR3-1333 (2x2GB) of DRAM, a 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M GPU). Alienware was running Vista, while Clevo was running 7. The 15x performed much better. Again, this was a short test, but interesting still.

I'm looking at getting the M17x, but I want an i7 processor!

well it would mean a new mainboard. so not like anyone could upgrade. so it would be a sizable change

I'm guessing the mobo change will come in about 4 to 6 weeks. That's the "standard" time gap dell used to take to update its flagship models.

Dell is pulling quite well. M17x is montevina and M15x is core i7.

PS: The 15.6" CLEVO is sporting a GTX 280M !! Dell's tag "most powerful 15" ... " is not true actually. It might be soon that M15x can get a spec revamp and house the GTX 280M, Radeon 4850 (high chance) or even a 4870 who knows ?

I am very sure Dell has plans to bring the i7 onboard to the M17x. Probably working the final design of the mobo and probably about a month or so, we will see the option for i7 processors.

I dont find the results too surprising as many of the guys on here have said for ages that initial I7 processors wont make that much difference in gaming/benchmarking terms.

Im sure that will change eventually. Nvidia 260/280s are still top gaming processors.

Hopefully we'll see an LED option as well.
