Although not all details are out i think everyone has pretty much made up their minds already. So which one do you prefer? m17x, m15x or are you gonna wait for the m17x to upgrade parts?
Edit: You can only vote once....sleey0![]()

I'm still all for the M17x no doubt for me. I prefer the larger screen. I'm still holding off on buying it until they refresh it with something better than 4870's though
-
Where's the "none of the above" option....
-
Ahhh
Marvie, the hater of AW systems -
M17x with upgraded hardware shouldn't have been an option.

Not at all I love my rig. I just get a kick out of people who dump them after 2 months because "it doesn't have that cool lil new thing that just came out" or can't make up their mind over .13Ghz of processing power etc. I'm sorry, I make good money, but dropping $3k every 2 months on a laptop for an extra 1k points in 3DMark (which is just bragging rights) is not in my budget.

fortunately for me, they made a change within my 30 day return policy
-
I wonder what they'll choose.
P.S. - You can throw out all the people voting for the "As Is" M17x because they're already existing owners that don't want to see machines better than theirs. They've already made their choice. -
checkbox ftw. payment for not having "none of the above" as an option. alienware no longer makes a laptop that will fit in my targus bag, with 1200p res under 8lbs.
failtastic. -

I was aware of the possible upgrades like core i7 and usb 3.0 back in june but i still chose the first option. so people can still have this conflict because they dont know how long they will have to wait. im keeping my poll the way it is.

I don't know about others, but I voted for the M17x because I enjoy the specs and the lower price compared to the new components. And I don't even have mine yet.
You don't shimmy shammy with polls like this bud. -
It's more like asking do you favor Democrats, Republicans, or some ideal tax-free utopian society where there are no wars, everyone has health care, and things get done right.
Anyone who votes Democrat or Republican in that poll already holds office. -

But here, the argument can always be that the M15x is portable and the the third option is way to expensive.
-
i want da one that runz da wow at max settings!

If you already own a M17X, who wouldn't want a M17X with upgrades?
But will I go out and sell my M17X to get a new M17X with upgrades in 2 months that costs 2k more than I could sell this one for? Well, hell no lol.
And if you want to compare this to a political poll, than you are a loser.
This poll is really like asking people, who do you favor the most:
Republicans
Democrats
Or Obama
Obama is a democrat which the democrats think is "upgraded." Therefore this will skew the poll towards democrats or Obama.
P.S. I'm not a democrat lol. -

Back on topic some...
I prefer the M17x hands down. I got i7 in my desktop. Why? Because I was bored and had money in the banks. It did not change my gaming experience (or any at all for that matter) one bit that I noticed. In a laptop it wont make much of a difference. If I am going to drop that much on a laptop, it is going to have dual GPUs and kick a$$ cooling. The M15x only has one of those
I also love having the WUXGA as well as a full unf*cked-with numpad. The loss of HDMI is also a big fail frankly. As well as no integrated to boost battery life (fail to Intel here, twice since they wont let Nvidia make i7 chipsets). The M15x also majorly lacks GPU options -
I ended up buying a M15x because every bit of portability I can get is better for me. Plus its not like the thing isnt equipped to game. Another thing that made me decide was the fact that I'll probably never spend a ton of money on two new gpus at the same time and the gtx260 is good enough for now. When the 5000s become available Ill hopefully be able to upgrade to a mid-high range 5000 which are rumored to be about 40ish watts which would probably work in the M15x. Either way for me the M15x just looks a little more sleek. The M17x is a powerhouse and thats why its the flagship but If you want a better mixture of portability and performance not to mention its good looks the M15x should be a winner. After looking into the battery life the M15x does NOT only get two hours of battery life. notebookcheck has a little hands on preview and theyre saying at least 3 which doesnt even say if they used the 6 or 9 cell. Im saying 9 cell prob 3-3.5 we will see.

No not at all I was just saying the fact that It looks good was an more of an incentive for me to buy I dont have an M17x so the fact that It looks the same doesnt bother me

Oh okay I get it, you weren't comparing them on looks.
Anyways, M15x is a good choice considering portability is a big one for you. IMO that's the one thing Alienware needs. A good, solid performer, that isn't an oxymoron. Even 15" laptops are a pain to move (I have prolonged experience with my 15.4" Aspire). -
15inch laptops are perfect for me not to big not to small etc etc I really want this latest model (i7, 1 gig video would put it on par with both of my desktops and my m17) I highly doubt I can come up with the $$$ in a month or two unless I land a job and do some selling. I may just do those things though

Machine wise, bar the sound/latency issues I actually dont dislike the M17x, especially if its going to get ATI cards now (as I have use for, and make use of PCM HDMI audio), BUT (BIG BUT) its radically overpriced in the UK/Europe right now.
The base spec costs £1700, and to upgrade to SLI280Ms would give me a total cost of £2300 (about $3750), BEFORE I've even looked at upgrading anything else; which I definately would, even if I had to do it myself.
By the time you've added on CPU upgrade etc, you can be looking at the best part of £3000-500, or $5000-5700!! [And this is without maxing upgrade options!]
On top of this; my experience with AW TS in europe has been dissapointing to say the least.
By comparison, people selling the Clevo M980nu will sell me a machine with similar base specs and SLI 280s for about £2000, about $500 dollars less, and as you upgrade other parts; them being cheaper on upgrade adds up further and further, not to mention they offer cheaper warranty extention and better tech support.
I dont mean to sound harsh; but unless I needed those new GDDR5 4870m [which arent even listed on the UK site yet], Dell/Alienware have priced themselves out of the UK market.
In comparison, after upgrades, my 4850 equipped M17 cost me less than £2k (although I did some myself). If I'd bought during the cheaper periods when they were there best price; even at AW upgrade prices I could get an X9100, dual 4850s, 1920x1200 screen, 4GB RAM, Bluray and better HDDs for that £2000, which is identical, bar the GPUs being slower by 10%, to the above specced M17x.
Where's the justification in the UK to buy the M17x, there are competitors offering me the same SLI280M,parts and better tech support CHEAPER? I sure as hell aint paying £500 for looks, its a laptop!
The new M15x looks better priced over here; but AW is mean to be for enthusiasts, power gamers and people who need raw mobile power, and the M15x falls down a little in some departments there.
So which one do you prefer? m17x, m15x or ...
