Will get it on Friday, can't wait! :)

    Specs:
    Q9000 (i know, but i couldn't afford the Q9300)
    8GB 1333MHz
    2*280
    2*500GB
    Win 7 Ultimate
    3 years service/Complete Care

My initial question is this, i have an Intel X25 G2 80GB laying around here somewhere. Would it make sense to exchange on of the 500GB drives with this one just for OS and applications?

Oh yeah, and it's black! :)

Definitely. I did it also with 160GB version.

I'm assuming you have a specific reason for the 8GB of memory. The average person would see better performance with an upgraded processor rather than the memory.

I dont think there can be alot of reasons. 8GB could start to become usefull in like 4 years or something, even people with a high end or ultimate desktop choose 6GB maximum.

Absolutely no need at all for the ram. The guy at dell only charged me like 90 dollars (650 swedish kronor) for it. He couldn't do anything on the cpu though. :( So I took the ram just for the heck of it.
Anything I need to pay attention to when swapping the drives?

Tons of IT people run virtual machines for testing. I know that's what I would do if it were a work laptop.

Yeah, i worked for Dell for 5 years, so i pulled the strings i could pull. :D

Seems RAM=High Margin and CPU=Low margin.

Looooool. You payed 950$ for the 8 gb and instead of taking the qx9300 you took the 9000? I think it is really a bad choice.

Do you know that ram are upgradable? Not only Dell ram are not the best performance one, also they are overpriced. Do you know that you could buy at least half cheaper than the Dell ram for best performance?

If I were you, I will keep the basic ram and take the best CPU qx9300. And upgrade to the future kingston hyperx 8 gb 1333mhz for only 400$ or less. After all, if you insist to keep your choice, it is your freedom.

Where do you get $950 from? He said $90. Just a bit of a difference there. Yes, just a bit.

    Congrads on the new System!

    About you SSD question..
Are the two 500gig's in Raid0? If not I would put the SSD in for OS and everything else on the 500gb.

And by the way, you can never have too much memory.
    Just my opinion ;) :D

You couldn't afford the QX, but got 8GB of RAM?

That's is the most confusing post I have read in a while.

confusing?....because he chose to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb for $90?
instead of upgrading the Q9000 to QX9300 for $750?

Reading comprehension 101. According to a post of his earlier in the thread, he worked for Dell for 5 years and pulled some strings to get the extra memory on the cheap.

I would have pulled strings for the QX way before memory, but I guess that is just me ;)

You'll notice the QX while the memory will be transparent.

He apparently didn't have the choice, so he took what he could get. Still, it was a better deal than $100 off some custom mouse pad that could be used to line cat litter boxes, lol.

Does anyone read the original posts anymore? The thread is only two pages long! He stated exactly why he didn't go for the QX9300 and instead got the RAM.

Well yeah, i did state my reasons for not going with the Q9300 and i figured 90 bucks for the RAM is something i couldn't say no to. :)

Then again we've all jumped to conclusions instead of reading properly. No big deal.

But yes, i'd rather have the Q9300 than the extra 4GB of RAM, but i just couldn't make it happen.

Got a lead on a Q9100 CPU now though. Do you guys think that will be a big step up from the 9000?

No, if you're in the US the qx9300 is $502 from HP, brand new OEM. Go that route if you can swing it.

    I need more money! :)
I think i will have to make do with the 9000 for a while and save some cash.

The Q9100 i found is an "ES", i hear that is a bad thing?
It's got open multiplier, i guess that's a good thing?

Sorry about all the stupid questions, i'm a total newbie in these realms of computing.

Hi, I saw an interesting update on the customizing page of M17x. Before the 8 Gb 1333Mhz RAM cost $1000. And now you could buy that only for $350

In the USA they only have the SSD 256gb. What I think your looking at is a Raid ssd config. The site is down now.

    edit it back up.

Now what I am wondering is the 1333mhz worth buying or the core 2 dual can not be over clock.
