It uses an expresscard 34, which will fit in the m15x's expresscard 54.
Be warned though, I fried my creative x-fi soundcard while gaming on my system. I wouldn't recommend using it in conjunction with the 8800gtx/9800gt on full power.

i have a x-fi extreme card... It made my M5550 sound a million times better in gaming and music, also the creative software is great. The only problem with using it on the M15x is that it fits tight due to the flappy door. . . it actually scrapes the paint of the door, the material of the card isnt smooth, its more of a metal finish....and i cringe every time i put it in. In the end i dont use it. The M15x sound is actually really good (compared to my M5550).

Im not sure the effects with using the card with the 9800/8800gtx, My card barely got hot using the card with my m5550 but then again that had a weak 7600go.

If the card doesnt get fried, and your planning on leaving it in ....then its great. Also it has a hookup on the card that can connect to 5.1 surround.

    hi nofate
i think that is the older x-fi card that has now been replaced with the one in the picture below. im not sure if you can connect 5.1 to that one but you can with the adapter below.

    @ MrDJ:
I had the older x-fi notebook like yours, and it stopped working while I was gaming (excessively). My system lagged and crashed, which sometimes happens if you take the card out abruptly. First I thought it was just an error, but my x-fi won't function again after that, even if I plugged it in another computer. FYI, the 8800m gtx doesn't run at 1kW..

    @ nofate:
As far as I know, the new model is able to transmit sound wirelessly to this device, which has an audio output:

    http://sg.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=843&product=18094&nav=0

I'm not sure whether it is able to output 5.1 channel sound, the description is not detailed; it seems to have a single 3.5mm audio jack, and RCA audio jacks, not sure if its 2.1 or 5.1 though.

    hope this helps

as it only has 2 sockets i guess 1 is for headphonesand the other is for a mic so unless there is an adapter for 5.1 using a single headphone socket then no it wont work.

my card didnt work at first but that was major problems with the m15x and not the card. once i got it working i had no lag. of course the computer will crash if you pull the card out abruptly which i also had done myself as the whole computer froze and was stuck on at the time and removing the mains ad the battery was the only way to turn it off. my card worked perfectly on oter laptops.
and thanks for the information about the 8800 not running at 1kw. i was trying to explain that i had used the laptop and card for a disco while running over 1000watt speakers through the x-fi card without any problems.

My friends are borrowing my m15x to go to the club as a dj and they wanted to put this on it.... it is safe right?? i mean i got the 8800m GTX and the Xtreme CPU, im worried that it will heat up or something because when we tested it, it got a bit hot, but my friends just said its ok and that is natural....

god im worried now... im so gonna kill them if they broke my baby

good luck. its one thing to use it myself for djing but to lend it to friends aint going to happen :D you are a brave man.
what dj software would they/you be using?
it should be ok as long as youve got the latest updates which makes the fan spin faster then it should be ok. i used it as a backup only twice and that was for 6 hours each.

Well if they are using it for software with time coded vinyl like Serato Scratch Live... The audio portion of your laptop is irrelavant.. Software like that comes with its own external sound card with all the audio ins and outs it needs ..all while using your own turntables/mixer..the laptop just controls what songs are being played. Now if your using an actual program that mixes music with no external hardware/TT's then yes you will want the X-fi....
