No specs have even come out yet so trying to assume will just make an @SS out of U and ME...hehe pun intended.

In all seriousness though, we can't speculate what can run these games without having the knowledge of their minimum requirements.

Lol, I know, I guess I'm just too excited.

I'm also really hoping that this machine can run those games easily at max settings :-/

1080p? Not so sure, but should come close. These aren't games with an epic graphics engine. I am assuming, again (hah), that they'll rely a bit on a good CPU as well.

"All Powerful" right? So I should bloody well hope so.

Alienware is going to get a punch in the eye if it isn't possible...

Thats my take on the matter.

Guys anything next year shouldn't be able to be run "at max" on this gens laptop hardware. If it does I'm going to be pissed bc that means no graphical progression.

Blizzard make it a policy for their games to run on as many systems as possible which is why they rely so heavily on art style as opposed to graphical quality for the visual appeal of their games. I personally think the games will run on max settings with the M15x, but I only make this judgement based on Blizzard's history. From the videos of Diablo 3 (which is the primary reason I bought the M15x in the first place) it looks like an upgraded World of Warcraft graphics engine with some nice effects thrown in and I doubt it will be very taxing on the M15x. Starcraft 2 also looks like it won't take too much to run it at max.

Anyway, this is all assumption. No way to really know until we get the specs, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

    They should run fine.

Keep in mind that Blizzard does a few things:

    1) Their graphics are based on their art more so than heavy rendering/textures/triangles/whatever. Think of Team Fortress 2 and how it's graphics are cartoony yet pleasant to play with, despite not being photo-realistic like say, Crysis. Of course, TF2 runs on just about everything.

    2) Blizzard is one of the best at programming their games to be extremely efficient. Meaning they will work on a wide range of hardware. Look at how WoW scales great across low end computers all the way on up.

    3) Blizzard want's sales #'s too, so they're not going to limit themselves by making their game out of reach.

    The m15x will be fine

LOL ofcourse the m15x will be fine but I would put money on it that no the m15x will not be able to run it at max. Especially starcraft 2.

Max is 1920x1200 with all the setting at max. No freakin way. No way no how imo. It makes me wonder if you guys have ever played a real RTS or have seen the screens from starcraft 2. Diablo could be ok but I havent really seen that much.

    Such as?

And IMO Starcraft 2 looks very unimpressive. I think its getting hyped up far too much. It'll just be another sub-standard RTS that thrives of the charity of its fanboys.

As for Diablo 3... Here's to hoping they make some big changes on the old format. Sure it was great fun to play but so many people praise it as one of the best RPG's of all time, when frankly it's pretty bland... That said I'm looking forward to seeing D3, it's been so long since the previous title and gaming has changed so much. I'm sure they will have made some interesting changes. I just hope you can actually interact with other characters this time, instead of them being no more than moving scenery. It doesn't really help to breathe life into a gameworld when 99% of its population are dumb and mute (and lets not even mention they're identical likenesses)...

Haha, spoken like a true Blizzard gamer. They should just make SC2 a patch in WoW, then we might actually see it this year :p

My son and I loved D2 but knowing Blizzard do not expect it to release D3 until his son can play it and he is not even 2 yet!!

Still, just to show you how Blizzard has effected my computer gaming, today was the first time that I have purchased a PC Game not from Blizzard since 2005!! Prior to WoW I used to purchase 2-3 PC games a month! Who said that WoW is expensive?? It has saved me hundreds of $$ :D

you really think blizzard is going to send out sc2 like that? Really? Have you played dawn of war and supreme commander? These are the titles sc2 needs to crush while still staying true to the pace of sc. Mediocre? You just lost all credibility to me since blizzard will cancel mediocre games before they release them.

Yes, of course, I'm an ignorant fanboy who has never played an RTS!

    I should self-reflect more often. . . lawl. Kidding.

I have played those games, and find them less interesting by the day, since I am moving out of the genre. But I am impressed by the visuals, given the SCALE of these games. Now one thing I have seen: They EAT CPU more than GPU. Yeah? Cool. Running low res polygons--even massive scaled as World in Conflict--on a single modern GPU at 1200p isn't nigh impossible. But the CPU factor becomes the hit. . . Studio XPS i7 users run that game better than most SLi 8800 users running on the older Core 2 Duo platform.

And guys, please. . . to everyone. . . credibility?! Companies have a credibility to uphold. Statements of fact have credibility to uphold. Legal stands have credibility for reliance. But opinions have credibility? Opinions are just perspectives that we relate to, or not; with all due respect, I think we could benefit from some perspective on the concept ourselves, and perhaps accept the idea that certain 'freaks' won't always agree with our norm.

1 - Yes, I have played Dawn of War. I play it daily. Because my computer won't run anything else. (RTS is a boring genre)

2 - I didn't realise this was the Blizzard fanboy thread.

3 - If my opinion causes you to lower your opinion of me, then your opinion wasn't worth jack to me in the first place.

4 - Starcraft 2 will be mediocre. Since when have Blizzard brought anything new to gaming? It'll be another RTS "drop in the ocean".

5 - You have a little brown smudge on your nose. Would you like a tissue?

Yea, M15x runs WOW max settings easily due to CPU. That's what im hoping for SC2 too!!

HOW can you say it is mediocre? Balance is the biggest thing in RTS games. NOTHING comes close to Blizzard's balancing expertise in RTS, especially with three totally different races. That's EPIC! That's why it wont be anywhere close to being "Mediocre" game at all.

It should, it's able to run MW2 on low or med settings on M11x's native rez? prolly not maxed out settings for D3 or SC2, but it should be fine?

I don't know what videos you have been watching but graphically SC2 doesn't look taxing in the slightest. It's a beautiful game granted, but its beauty is strongly reliant on its art style and not any groundbreaking graphical effects. You're doing some powerful mind-numbing drugs if you believe there isn't a pretty good chance the M15x can't max it. The only way I can see it not happening is if Blizzard fail to adequately optimize the engine which, judging from Blizzard's previous game development history, is a laughable notion.

Alright then, bookmarked this thread for ownage to come. You guys have no clue what you are talking about.

Ofcourse blizzards engine will be very scalable. That doesn't mean Jack when you are talking about max settings. Heck there are people who don't even run wow at max settings because it slows down fps on big raids etc on their m17x! With the scale, number of units, bullet tracking, effects etc this game could easily cause slowdown at max. I guess you guys never played supreme commander at max like I have huh?

Number of units - CPU. (Even older GPUs are capable of pushing plenty of polygons! You're talking about the 260m, here.)
Bullet tracking - Until this game is using some very radical form of Hybrid-PhysX. . . most likely CPU.
Effects - It's not doing -anything- that a majority of shooters/racers/action titles aren't/haven't already been doing since the era of 2006-2009. What makes it good is the fact that it is implementing those features in a scale-rich genre such as RTS. Meaning it'll most likely need a strong CPU profile.
Slowdown - define slowdown. (Some people are content with 30 FPS, others just don't want dips below 30, while others think everything should be 60 - even RTS games.)

I have played Supreme Commander at max settings with 1200p resolution, and even 2xAA. . . and on older hardware. SLi did not scale as well due to bad SLi profile, and the game did lag at a few points, but my average was 40 FPS, and the experience was steady. My friend's Qosmio with a QX9300 aced the game using slower SLi GPUs. Which says what? The game apparently benefits from a damn good CPU. What do ya' know? M15x I7 is a great CPU platform, and the 260m is a top-line GPU solution. If you can't acknowledge that, then you are deluded. Period.

    Side note:
As for M17x and slowdowns. The biggest folly of this machine is this: People are too busy using it for benchmark scores, and the moment hey score 16k or 18k, they think that it will somehow magically run everything else properly. Nvidia users, for example, don't always benefit from this strategy. We have people who can't even run Mass Effect 2 properly, and there's people with OLDER systems running the game maxed out without a hitch. The Alienware forum is riddled with issues regarding the M17x R1, by and large due to the compatibility, driver, and complexity issues associated with the machine. Some people think that running a poor SLi profile will still yield them better performance than a properly running single card. Point: Saying that the M17x has a hard time running a game that slightly older machines are running well, doesn't mean that the software in question is a hardware killer. Even a hint of logic will make you realise this fact.

"You guys have no clue what you are talking about." - Gatti-Man.

Sure. And tomorrow, Laxxi will sprout bat wings and take his place on Satan's throne.

    Closing:
No one is saying that you are wrong. You could possibly be right. Even if you weren't, I ain't petty enough to rub your face in the idea. This is how people learn and grow. But from looking at the measure, scale, and general performance index of most RTS games, it is CPU that becomes the bottle neck, so the M15x should have a good shot at running these titles at decent frame rates, maxed out.

World of Warcraft is a 5yr old game that isn't optimized to take advantage of today's technology because doing so would require significant rewriting of the game code which is why the game, even with 'multi-core support', still does most of the work on a single core and why it still has trouble at ultra settings on some computers in this day and age in 25 man raids with lots of spell effects etc. It has gotten better with each subsequent expansion, but the base code is still very antiquated. Ironically, on my M15x I have yet to see an unplayable fps drop in World of Warcraft whether I be in a full raid, Dalaran or general play.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are each being developed to take advantage of the technology we have in our hands today which is why comparing them to World of Warcraft, at least in terms of how they will run, is ridiculous. There isn't a Blizzard game that comes to mind that didn't run at the highest settings on decent machines from the year previous, if not longer. Judging from Videos and Screenshots, Blizzzard don't seem to be breaking tradition with their upcoming games.

Overall you seem to be quite ignorant when it comes to the matter of how games perform and the reasons why so it doesn't surprise me that you made this faulty argument. Judging by your initial response to the topic and your subsequent comments, it seems to me that your stance is based more on the hopes that the game won't run on current technology as opposed to knowledge of the subject matter or any real world evidence. Regardless, we will see who is right upon the release of these games.

I would be shocked if you did not get 100 fps maxed at panel resolution on a M15x. Blizzard makes their games run on a wide range of hardware - they are very smart.

They want your money regardless of the hardware you have, so they optimize the heck out of their games so that you'll get a nice experience.

Thanks for using so much selective bias--to the extreme degree--that even a junior college student would be sitting with an 'ungraded' paper as a result of such a tacky argument. Direct point: Your point has not been proven. You say M15x will most likely fail, and you are now fixed on this position; my statement actually implies the contrary since the M15x has the kind of CPU hardware that my example lacked.

And incase you are so adamant on missing the point; that 'proving', only proved that my CPU was the bottleneck in the aforementioned test. Because if you read on, it is very clear that a QX9300--less than an I7--cured the problem.

    M15x Specs:
    - i7 CPU (The lead platform for laptop CPUs)
    - 260m GTX (One of the highest rated high-end GPUs in the mobile market.)

    Conclusion:
It should run an RTS. Game over. Would you like to try again?

Selective bias only has its place in bad legal cases and politics, where people aren't so much interested in the truth or facts as they are in taking portions/selected parts of whole statements in order to change their meaning, which will only be used to serve the purpose of manipulating and coercing others into 'believing' a certain contention regardless of its authenticity.
