I found out something interesting just now. If I turn Stealth mode "off" - ie, the touch button is dimmed and the OSD shows the stealth turned off, I get heating up on the video card even in idle -my CPU is at 2.5ghz, the video is at full speed, 540mhz. My video temps go right on up to 67-70 degrees.

If turn stealth mode "on" - the button is brighter, and the OSD shows it on, the temps drop to 62 and stay there. Video is still clocked at 540 and the CPU is still at 2.5.

This is all while plugged in. It almost seems to me the stealth button is backwards - when its "on" the fans are on more and keeping things cool, but when its "off", it gets hot. I have not yet tested it while on battery, but plugged in, this behavior is 100% reproducible for me.

Can anybody else duplicate? Run RivaTuner and show the graphs for core temp and speed and play with the stealth button.

OK, Not sure exactly what Stealth does, but in game, it definitely slows the game down when "on" but not by dropping the video card speed as the speed stays constant in RivaTuner.

that sounds correct it should be like that
temps should drop if stealth is on..

But why? I don't see a drop in speeds of the cpu or video?

This is very interesting Nyceis... The same happened on my m5550 as well. When I press the "stealth button" only the cpu clock drops. The GPU stays the same. When I press it, I notice that the downclocking and skipping graphics also stops while I gamed.

Can some m15x owners here try it out and see??

Hey, Nyceis, when you press the "stealth button" while gaming, does the CPU clock drop or stay the same like the GPU?

This is exactly like my m5550's stealth button and the DC'ing & skipping video problem...

Nope, the CPU speed stays the same speed as does the GPU's speed. I can't figure out what Stealth does exactly. Running the World In Conflict benchmark, I can easily tell when its "on" as it is much slower, but according to Riva, there are *no* changes to either CPU or GPU clock speeds when its on. So it is slowing things down, but not sure how.

Try using GPU-Z or ATi-tool. It could be that Rivatuner doesn't pick it up..just to be safe.

Yeah, I thought somebody had mentioned it, but like I said, the clock speeds themselves are not changing. I will try GPU-Z and CPU-Z though to verify.

yeah, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Could be the Stealth mode.

I keep being reminded of my m5550's woes. It has the exact same Stealth Mode feature too.

If I press Stealth mode, my GPU will DC to 297mhz and memory clock at 300.86mhz
Stealth mode will cause both GPU and CPU speed to go down almost half. Temp will also go down. If I press stealth mode when gaming, both fans will slow down very much immediately.

My guess is your stealth mode is not functioning properly (or rather mine :D ).

hers rivertuner of what happens after i pressed stealthmode.... u see the drop, and the temp goes from 73 degreess to 54 in about 4 minutes.. then rises back again..

keep in mind that i'm still on high performance, max brightness, my laptops been on for about 12 hours, and i have the x-fi in near the vid card area.. and that gets quite hot too.

on another note... how do you monitor temps while using the x3100?? rivatuner won't show it :/

The dips, seems to me, looks like the dips that also show up in the graph during dc'ing. Is this right?

OK, I think mine is dropping, because the framerate falls correctly, but I don't see it in RivaTuner....weird.

hey, i know its been a couple of months, but i have been playing around with my new m15, and it seems that the stealth mode just plays with the cpu, and doesn't require the restart.

to switch graphics, i have to hit Fn+F7, and then it requests the reboot.

    don't know if this helps,

yeah, Fn+F7 is to switch your graphics mode. Stealth mode only helps when you are in dedicated graphics mode (8700,8600,8800).
