Hey everyone,
As most of you have read, I've been trying to get Unreal Tournament 3 running optimally. So far I've restored my computer 3 times and have tried all the drivers (official Alienware, 174.16, and 174.74). It seems as though the Alienware drivers are the most stable, even though I'm still having issues with textures jittering and a driver recovery (little yellow hazard sign that appears in the taskbar) everytime I exit the game. The other two drivers, although they seem to increase performance, constantly freeze the game.
I'm sure there's more people out there than me playing this game. Please give me some ideas
Here's my specs:
Intel Core 2 2.0 Ghz
4Gb of RAM
2 Nvidia 8700 GTs SLI
2 Seagate 80Gb 7200 RPM drives in a stripe
Thanks,
Gabe

Is it a legitimate copy?

Lol...... I sure hope so. Best Buy does seem to have a few shadey salesman.

Alienware-Steve Company Representative
Gabez,
Have you tried calling TS about the driver problem? -
@GabeZ - I would actually follow Steve's instructions and call TS. They will most likely have you reseat the GPU's, and check on the temperature. If you need to burn a CD though, don't let them download any software onto your computer via the remote thing since this 1 guy that I was on the phone with downloaded this really shady CD burning program which I got rid of right when we were done.
a. Reseat your GPU's and you're good.
b. Apply more thermal paste to your cards (don't think it will help)
c. Send it back for it to be checked out (probably your best bet). -
@Stone825 - Gabez was telling me that he was having issues running that Driver Cleaner App you recommended in Vista. Throwing a DLL error. Are you experiencing the same issue?
-
Nope "Driver Sweeper" runs perfectly on my system. He should try to re-install it.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice. I did get into contact with Alienware, and they did the usual remote thing and checked things out. Unfortunately, from their perspective, it's running normally as far as software is concerned. They didn't have me check temps or reseat or anything like that. I find it really hard to believe that it's overheating being that the fan exhaust isn't the usual scorching heat that most gaming notebooks put out. Also, graphics are perfect outside of Unreal Tournament 3, so I'd have to speculate that the cards are seated correctly.
I still don't understand how everyone is able to run the 174 driver set..... I can't get them to work to save my life. Perphaps there's a hidden hardware issue somewhere.
Thanks,
Gabe -
Give it a try, it will only help.

Well I do not run AS5 on my M9750 and it actually runs perfectly with no signs of overheating. I guess just have them swap out your GPU's (you can have them send you 2 to replace yours) if you really want to, I mean it could just be something weird.
Oh btw if driver sweeper isn't working you should try to get it to work since that is the best way to install new drivers. -
@EightD - Thanks for the link. I tried to give you more rep but it said that I have to "spread the rep around" before I can give you more
I meant the link on the OC'ing guide, lol posted in wrong thread. -
@Gabez, If you don't want to Go the AS5 route, AW will replace the cards with no arguements. I got mine replaced a few days after getting my machine. AW didn't put a fight at all.
@Stone, No problem. I meant to PM about the file being uploaded but I forgot. -
@Gabez - With my M5550 Alienware actually sent me out a tube of AS5 (weird I know) and a new GPU. You can try asking them to do that, I'm sure that they will be willing to help you out.
Still strugling with Unreal Tournament 3 and Area 51 m9750
