Just got these today so I decided to post up some pics. It should be noted that the Thermal tape that comes pre-attached will be enough for 4X2 modules but looks to be insufficient coverage for 8X2 modules (of which most 4GB modules are). Since dell will most likely use 8X2 modules I'll have to source some Thermal tape to cover the additional area. The Spreaders are thin enough that they should still allow some ambient airflow between sticks and shouldn't interfere with the modules ability to clip in. Besides that, for $7 @ newegg, it dentally deserves 4/5

Would you like to ask any questions about or comment on the spreaders?

Do we have a problem with heat on the ram currently? Are there any temperature sensors around the ram to check?

I do appreciate your post because none of the pics on newegg or sunbeam's website show the tape side and how small a strip they're using. it's useless for my 4gb sticks. thanks.

there's enough copper material on there to cover 8X2 modules it's just a matter of whether you want to use some more double-sided VHB(which is just strong normal DS tape and is not thermally conductive) or use some actual thermal adhesive

I suspect that if you used this product you really *would* have 1 shot to get it right, and you'd probably want to remove the 3M adhesive as well.
The only other alternative is the 3M tacky Thermally conductive tape (this is the real stuff)

$18~ for a 1"x1 yard roll. the only issue is that it's approx 5mil thick according to the 3m pdf, so I'm not sure that there's 20mm of room in our memory compartment. -
According to the 3m data sheet: 5 mils is not 5 mm. 5 mils = 1/8 mm.
And yeah, the torque specs are near what I think would rip the dies up when removing it. 2-5 seconds to position. Ugh....

edit: taking this stuff off atm and I can say you *will* need a straight razor, and lots of adhesive remover. I'm using some good stuff (3m) brand and it's coming for sure, but these items are absolutely necessary to get anywhere. -
VHB has a tenacious grip, it's darn near permanent. One of my clients is an airport and they use it to put up signs and when they remove the signs, it takes chunks out of the drywall.
Take some pics when you get it done. I bet you can sell the excess tape in the marketplace. -
However, even VHB is no match for a straight razor and some 3M wax/adhesive remover.
anything that's left is me just not taking the time to do it perfectly. -
nice pic. you can always use the "back" side for the thermal tape.
so, you're the one who installed Alienewbie's CPU... {gdr}
