Well, I took it all apart and it was just a bad connection to the motherboard. They use very loose connectors on this particular machine. Nothing like Lenovo has on my T60p.

Can anyone tell me what the model number of the WUXGA screen is? I am wanting to order one of them. My current display is LP154WP1(T1)(D1). It is a beautiful monitor, but I want, or should I say, need the higher resolution for for video editing on the go.

I will try and get some more pictures when I actually install the lcd.

    Thank you again.

I have also see the 15.4inch 1920 x 1200 LP154WU1 LCD on ebay for as low ad $145, but on average of about $175-185. I plan on purchasing mine from there when I upgrade mine too. God Bless :)

That's great! I just ordered one for 125.00 + Shipping. It was used but in good condition. The one thing that I will enjoy is the Matte finish. I am not a fan of glossy displays. Anyways, thank you for the info.

I thought I'd post my experience thus far:

Very pleased with it. Per the usual, there are some squeaks and squabbles when moving the LCD/cover. I inspected the machine and didn't notice any missing screws or anything. There were no visible gaps or anything strange about the hinges or covers. The LCD seems pretty stable when positioned. I suppose time will tell whether the squeaks mean anything (luckily I extended the warranty to 2 years). So while I'm still a little leary about it, I'm hopeful that I won't run into any problems.

Thus far my experience has been everything I expected. Vista x64 is a dream and thus far haven't had any issues. I was able to instantly use an external hard drive and a flash drive without config problems. I loaded up FS2004 to see how the performance will be. I'm looking forward to getting my work software installed also (all 64-bit versions).

As much as I would love to update, I still haven't received my laptop back from Alienware. I did order another LCD (WUXGA) and a Skullcap back panel for it off eBay, so I will let you know the difference between the two when I receive my laptop back.

just tightened the hindge screws, the cracking noise isn't gone but it feels steadier.
One of the screws fell out with the rubberdot!.. I wonder if they are untightening them selves or what

    well, thanks for the fix!

If you are simply re-tightening these screws after they came loose, more than likely you will have to tighten them again. Try applying a drop of LockTight (Blue liquid meant for preventing lose screws) to the screws BEFORE re-installing them.

Also, don't tighten the screw to tight, as the screw will force the metal stud off the back panel and then you will have major problems.

Well, I just got my m15x back from Alienware and the hinge is fixed, but there still seems to be some creaking. I will take it apart and show you the new version versus the one I got on eBay. Thank you.

Hopefully, the hinges don't fall apart when I take the panel apart. That's what scares me the most.

As of right now, I have anew panel on my m15x, a new spare skullcap panel in a box, and a broken skullcap panel in a box. I will do some experimenting with the broken one to see if I can engineer a bracket to make the hinges sturdy.

I am working on it today. I just bought 2 car washes and have to repaint one of them, so I will do that first and do the review later. Sorry guys, business first.

I have found a benefit from this. So stop crying all you guys. You've had the laptop for a year, it will be bound to have a few scratches here and there. Well when this happens you get a WHOLE new chassis :D. All scratches gone. I had the same thing happen, i was without for 19 days and got a brand new laptop back, with upgraded screen to the 1920x1200 :D

Wouldn't tightening the screw actually put more stress on the hinge and cause it to fail faster?

My M15X is about 1 1/2 years old and it is just showing signs of the hinges starting to go. I am thinking of purchasing a new 1920 x 1200 LCD and also a new top case and then swapping everything over at one time. I will also see if there is a way to strengthen that area of the hinge so that this does not happen anymore. God Bless :)

Both of my hinges are on their way out. The screws don't tighten at all either. I've had my laptop for 18 months so I can't complain.

Going to buy a Skullcap from ebay (cyberinfinity still sells them). Has anyone come up with a way to fix this hinge problem? I'd rather not purchase a new top every 18 months.

Side note : AW Australia told me that the new tops are out of stock until October. Fix coming perhaps?

I did the same thing. I bought a skullcap from cyberinfinity. I placed some plastic epoxy around the mount that the 4 screw mounts are attached to, so it makes one piece to give it a little more support. Here's the link to what I did.
