Okay. I have the Logitech g51 5.1 surround sound kit. How the heck do I get it connected to my m15x? The G51 has 4 jacks, Mic, Sub, Center, front/rear.

You're going to need to plug the mic wire into the mic port and any one of the others into the headphone jack. The speakers should automatically try to spread out the sounds across all the speakers, but it won't be the same as true surround sound. If you got your notebook with the SoundBlaster mobile X-Fi card you'll have extra ports to insert all the wires into, otherwise you'll need to buy a sound card for your notebook to get all the ports you'll need.

A gripe i have with the m15x is the location of the Express Card slot. I have the X-Fi card and it sticks out about an inch where your mouse is when inserted.... if you buy that adapter kit (which i will be soon), theres all these wires sticking out where your mouse is trying to pwn n00bs....

Why not use a 3.5 mm Tosh link to Optical input. I believe your 5.1 system will accept an optical input.

I use a 3.5mm to Optical cable and insert it into the headphones jack. Then double click the realtek HD manager in your task bar. Select the Digital OutPut tab. Select "Set as default" sometimes you have to restart your app using the sound device.

I use that setup connected to my z5500 Logitech speakers and they sound great.

I even set t that way to play games on my home theater(PreAmp Only). Looks pretty good on a 42" 1080p Plasma.(HDMI to the TV) hehehehe

Nah I connect my Amp directly using Optical. And just use the HDMI direct to my tv for video. If not I have to reroute the sound out of my TV and back o my Amp.

It won't. the only Logitech speaker set which accepts a Digital Input (toslink) is the Z-5500 Digital. priced at over $500, it's a significant investment.

he will need to do the X-FI + Dongle adapter setup to get 5.1 with his current speakers.

Unless someone can find a simple Optical DIN-to-Analog Minijack converter?

Ah that sucks. And the Logitech set will run around $300. I guess your only option is the Creative PCI xpress card and the adapter. There is also the cheaper USB version of Creatives older tech. Wich alot of people still claim is much better. The newer creative tech is nothing more then software improved sound. There is absolutly no hardware upsampling. It's all software only. I have on my sons laptop an older creative USB version and it sounds pretty darn good for being 2 years old. To me the newer creative is absolutly worthless unless your attaching it to a decent set of speakers/sorround system. These built in M15x speakers are TERRIBLE. I really don't think AW could have bought any cheaper speakers. LOL....

For a premium product I would have expected at least a premium brandname Speaker.

The G51 set sounds really good imo. Nice music and gameplay sounds. Havent really tested it watching a dvd yet though. But yea, sounds amazing. Hopefully that express card does it justice as I ordered that and the adapter today.

    hi guys
    quick question please.
ive upgraded to External Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Card.
at times i will be using it with my disco equipment running through 1000watt speakers. i also have a creative 5.1 surround system from a previous computer. will i also need this surround sound upgrade kit for express card sound blaster.
that Silkex posted to get the full use of the 5.1 speakers.
also as krismezza points out about the X-Fi card sticking out where the mouse normally is. if the card is removed will the m15x still have the on board
Intel® High-Definition Audio (24-bit, 192Khz) with surround sound or has this been removed to make way for the X-Fi card.
    thanks
    jim

i dont think they will remove the internal audio to make way for the X-Fi card since the X-Fi card is an express card and it plugs into your express card slot. the internal audio should still be there. if it isnt then it would be really bad if you lose the X-Fi card and your laptop wont be able to output sound.

thanks for the reply exiled, thats exactly what i was thinking.
its a pity they could'nt put the express card slot at the back where you dont mind having bits sticking out an inch or so.

    Thanks guys.

The speaker of the m15x is kinda sux, the sound is not clear and sharp, always have distortion and noise and high pitch if too loud.
So was having the idea of replacing the speaker with my spoil qosmio's speakers but no idea how to do it.

There is an accessory ostensibly for the Xbox 360: "AX360" by Triton. It has a Toslink input and analog outputs for 5.1 speakers. I bought it for my 360, but have used it with the digital out on the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook several times. It costs $120 at Fry's Electronics and comes with a REALLY nice set of surround sound headphones (4 speakers per ear, plus rumble; great for when the roomates are sleeping :D ). The phones have an adapter that converts the built in plug to analog minijacks for use with other audio equipment.

More expensive than the X-Fi card, but cheaper than all new speakers. And the headphones alone are worth the price of admission.

    just an update on this.
if you do order the upgrade x-fi sound card for your m15x you also get a set of headphones and cd to load all the programs.
the cd says only use it if you have xp but trust me you will need it for vista as well. the drivers are already pre loaded but make sure you overwrite them when using the cd. if you dont use your cd then the card will not work even when it says it has found and loaded the drivers.
